In this guide we are going to be showing you how to install the UnderstandingE Admin Theme. A couple of guides ago, we introduced you to the UnderstandingE theme and in the video above we now show you where you can buy and download the admin theme as well as how to install it in your system.
So in the video above we take you through the following:
- How and where to purchase the UnderstandingE Admin Theme
- What to do with the files once you have bought the UE theme
- How to add the admin files to our system using FTP
- How to log into the Magento system and activate the new theme (It should activate straight away but we show you where to activate it if it hasn’t been set by default)
- Finally we show you how you can change the theme back to the default at any time
The UnderstandingE Store
To purchase and download the UnderstandingE admin theme you will need to head over to the UnderstandingE store which can be found here: understandinge.com/store
Once here we have the admin theme available to purchase. A note here is that if you are a Premium Member for UnderstandingE then you get a discount code which will give you 50% off not just for the admin theme but any extensions that are built by us here at UnderstandingE.
So in the above guide we take you through the checkout process but more importantly the process of adding the admin theme to your Magento system. So if the UnderstandingE Magento Admin Theme is something that you think will benefit your business then please follow us along in your own system.
Important Note: As we mentioned in the guide when we introduced the UnderstandingE Admin Theme, using the UnderstandingE Admin Theme is 100% optional. We hope that it will make your life a lot easier and Magento much more user friendly, however if you are happy with the default Magento theme then you can by all means carry on using that.
How to Install the UnderstandingE Magento Admin Theme
A clean and organised admin theme allows you to navigate through Magento more easily.
You’ve been introduced to the UnderstandingE Magento Admin Theme – and its user-friendly features – in an earlier guide.
If you like what you saw and think the UE theme is something that you need and want, you can get it right here and now.
This guide shows you where and how to purchase the UnderstandingE theme, as well as how to install it in your system.
Step 1. Purchase the UE Magento Admin Theme
To purchase the UnderstandingE Magento Admin Theme, go to understandinge.com/store.
Once there, click on the box on the extreme left that reads ‘Understandinge Magento Admin Theme’.
Click on the Add to Cart button in the middle of your screen.
Note that premium members of UnderstandingE automatically get a 50% discount code.
If you have a discount code (This should be visible in your UE dashboard), type it in the Coupon Code field, click on the Apply Coupon button, and then click on Proceed to Checkout.
If you wish to edit your cart’s details, simply click on the tiny cart icon located at the top right-hand corner of your screen.
Next, fill in the form on the left-hand side with your billing details.
To complete your purchase, click on the Place Order button, then sign in to your PayPal account and make your payment.
Step 2. Download the UE Theme to Your Computer
After making your payment, the Order Details page will appear on your screen.
Click on the Download Files button to download the UE theme to your desktop.
On your desktop, right-click on the UnderstandingE_Admin_Theme folder, then choose Extract All from the drop-down list.
Click on Extract in the small box that appears on your screen to extract the files.
Double-click on UnderstandingE_Admin_Theme in the pop-up window to see the folders – app and skin – that you need to transfer to your website.
Step 3. Transfer the UE Theme Files through FileZilla
Open Filezilla and the pop-up window with the app and skin folders side by side.
Click on the down arrow below FileZilla’s File menu, then choose your website from the drop-down list.
Go to the window with the UE theme’s app and skin folders, click on them, and then drag them to FileZilla’s folders section on the right-hand side.
Carefully drop the app and skin folders in the white space on the right-hand side of FileZilla, so you don’t accidentally drop them into any of the existing folders.
Step 4. Apply the UE Theme to Your Website
Every time you upload a new extension or theme to your site, it is best practice to clear out the caches.
To perform this action, go to Cache Management from the System menu.
Choose the Select All link on the left-hand side, then click on the Submit button on the right-hand side of your screen.
After clearing out the caches, press the Log Out button at the top right-hand corner.
Step 5. Turn the UE Theme On/Off
Log back into your system and the UE theme should already be displayed on your screen.
If that is not the case, turning on your UE theme would require a single click of your mouse.
Scroll down to the bottom left-hand corner and set the Current Theme option to UnderstandingE.
If you want to change your theme back to default, scroll down to the lower right-hand corner and change the Current Theme option to Default.
With your UE admin theme now installed, you can get the most out of your Magento system.
The UE theme’s clean and organised features will allow you and your staff to speed up on work, while preventing possible occurrences of errors.
