Is this a dead forum?

I just signed back up, and I can’t access the courses and when I check the forum, no one seems to have posted in years.

Is this now a dead forum/community. Apologises if it isn’t, but when wondering why I can’t access tutorials even though I have signed up, then find no new postings on the forum.

I do apologise at what might appear abruptness :).

(reposting my thoughts in response here from another post)

While this was a good idea, even years ago this seemed like an overwhelming endeavor. A lot of the videos were very quickly outdated (still lots of useful info, but the interfaces have changed, etc…which could be quite confusing for the target audience).

I was disappointed that the forums were not the main focus to build a community that would have kept things going longer (and keep more subscriptions, I myself paid for 6 months or more that I didn’t use). Too many divisions of forums (both in topic and the subscriber only forums) and the ban of personal info/site sharing seemed to doom that possibility right from the start. I think they missed the ball on that one.

The two founders seemed to quickly move onto more profitable ventures (even more so at the exact time of the price increase, not a good sign, and that was about 5 years ago?), admirably tried to keep this going with some help, but have let it die.

I posted this as well :)

Still a shame, the Magmi videos were brilliant… and forum would have been good to keep going even if new content wasn’t coming

The magmi videos were indeed very useful.

While I appreciate what they did initially, it’s a failure of support and execution and has been for 5+ years. I think they took the wrong approach to monetizing. I was not a fan whatsoever of pushing widgetchimp (one of the main reasons to go with Magento/M2E/Magmi is to NOT to rely on an additional 3rd party to keep updated with eBay changes to not break your listings) and while I believe the advice to hold-off on updating to Magento2 was somewhat warranted, I think they went too far in order to keep the current videos relevant for as long as possible (like…if they weren’t going to release updated/new videos, might as well double down right?). Along with too many other ventures, I think this is a good case study on conflicts of interest and lack of focus.

I’m sure there were countless issues I’m not aware of, but the point for me, is to learn what I can from others failures because it’s more efficient than learning from my own, lol.
