Not so New

Hi guys, I have been selling on ebay for approx 18 months and need to get on board with amazon and play, maybe my own site. My problem is I do not understand where to start. Any help greatly appreciated.

Hey Glenn
Thanks for stopping by and saying hello. We imagine you are not the only one in this position right now, it is common for sellers to start on eBay and look at a way to branch out to other channels. The most desirable step is to get software involved so that you can manage your stock to the multiple marketplaces from one place. There used to be a massive barrier for sellers like yourself, and that was in the form of cost. Existing software was and still is expensive that exists out there today.
Along comes UnderstandingE. On January 1st we will be releasing a set of video guides which will show you exactly how to create your own multi channel software as well as showing you how to start on the other channels, and tying the two together.
So I will post a question to you Glenn, what would your ideal system look like, and what would it do for you? What processes would make your life a lot easier if they were automated? I know you won’t have come across some of them yet as some are ‘multi channel’ processes, but any feedback you could give us would be brilliant.

Not so New

Hi Dave. at the moment it would be difficult to explain what I need as such. In terms of what I require is quite simple, I need software to allow me to sell on different sites with the ability of stock control to avoid overselling. I was about to sign up for channel grabber, when I came across Understanding e.
Free sounds so much better than £60-£120 per month.
Is there any ground work that I can be getting on with prior to January launch?

Hi Glenn,
If I can dive in and answer that question for you :)
Yes, data.
Right now I’m guessing you’re listing manually to eBay, if this is the case then I would suggest you might want to start thinking about doing the following In no order of importance):
- Creating a spreadsheet of your products, titles etc… or using something like Turbo lister, so at least you stand a chance of getting your product data back out of eBay later
- Add a custom title (SKU / Stock number or each of your eBay listings). This is so that each listing has it’s own identifier, if you do this between now & January, this will save you hours later on as it’s 100% needed regardless of the system you put in place.
M2E Pro needs to be the source of your product data that is listed onto eBay. This is something we identified early on and as I’ve personally worked with the eBay API’s quite heavily, I am playing with an eBay export option to get ALL the data out of eBay so it can be imported into Magento. It’s a little tricky as you can imagine, but perfectly possible and will be part of one of our “migration guides”.
Does that help you?

Hi Matt-
Just got another call from Channel Advisor, also speaking w/Solid Commerce, and I’m not sure either one will do what I want (bring all of my Amazon FBA items into multiple channels, especially eBay and Rakuten RSL, and manage inventory by interfacing with my 3PL).
I would be interested in working now as a Beta project with you as I am ready with two VA’s ready to assist. We had substantial volume on Amazon after only one year, but now competitors have entered, including Amazon, and we need to expand domestically as well as internationally to keep our sales growth.

Hi Richard,
We are already working with a couple of UK based businesses as they migrate to the 3rd generation, right now we have limited time to get all the guides we need into place for January and we just can’t fit another one in (even if it was paid for!).
However with you being based in the USA, this is on our target list for January, as there are some things I don;t understand properly for the US market (mainly the tax) and working with a business like yours would be amazing for us.
So I’m afraid that’s a no for now, but January yes!

@Richard1 also while I think of it, isn’t ChannelAdvisor $1800 a month now?

Excellent

thank you for letting us know that we newbies can actually make a start in jan , have been looking around for info on what to do first then 2 nd etc.
we are currently on ebay only , with a new website of our own just started to list our items on.
we wish to expand to amazon but we are having bar code headaches etc .
also we have one type of account and we have been told we need another type instead we cant have 2 and use the same e/mail address etc etc .
we use quantity manager to manage our inventory which is very good but would prefer a more detailed system stating days since sale etc.
which ebay used to provide , we have been on ebay approx 10 years now.
we have already added widget chimp to most of our listings and have been happy with the results obtained.

Hey Stephen
Thanks for registering its good to have you here. Come January the guides will be in place and will cover as many bases as possible. In the mean time though any questions you have about how certain things will work or features you would like to see, then let us know here in the forums.
Cheers
Dave

I’m sorry to hear that, may I suggest you pop a new topic in this forum https://understandinge.com/forum/everything-amazon/ and let us know what or where you’re stuggling with the barcodes and me & Dave will see if we can help?

PS. Nice one on WidgetChimp :)

Hi Matt – it’s Westwood from the other forum – good to be here!
Really pleased to be on the ground floor of Ue, as I really need to have my hand held while I get up to speed on everything.
The OP asked the right questions, and I have taken note of your suggestion to get on with a Data spreadsheet.
I had an eBay store designed, and they did a great job. Also created a custom eBay listing template that matches the design theme/branding.
The designer said they could adapt the eBay custom store for a Magento website (great design work at low prices, so I think I will be taking them up on this).
Here is my next query:
Will 3rd Gen enable me to list on eBay using my custom template?
Thanks
Steve

Absolutely.
M2E Pro has a templating system that is comparable (and some times better) to existing providers. You can make your template and add in place holders (also known as variables, keywords, marcros) to put dynamic content in your listings.
We (that’s all of us) are getting some new delicious keywords added in a future release, you can see an article here on this topic:
https://understandinge.com/one-minute/
All we need now is conditional statements & I’m saving that one up for another day :)
Oh and while I think of it, we’re also working on an eBay template generator that will generate a eBay listing template for users that do not have one, that will look great and be 100% compatible with the guides we’re building and of course eBay too. More on that in the next few weeks (need to show eBay this first!)
