We do have a subscriptions & watch functions to the site, but for some reason they are not being shown to “normal” users:
(This is about #11 on my two page todo list, will get to it as soon as I can)
Which is also the thread we made for the great suggestions you’ve just made :)
Bump for this. Will help you guys get more eyeballs on your site too. There’s little a find as clickable as an email with a link saying someone has responded to your post.
Noticed that you are mentioning people by name Matt. That does seem to trigger an email thankfully.
Incidentally, what’s the difference between watching and subscribing?
Is that desirable? So that when some mentions you liek the above, an email should be fired over to you to let you know?
Doh I see what you mean now. Yep it does, which has been the reason why we’ve been doing it.
I’m a little hesitant to subscribe users to the threads they post in , for example the “hi!” thread alone would email each user each time someone posts in it, not ideal.
The few other forums I visit have auto-subscribe as standard when you post in a thread. The way I see it is that if you say something you want to see responses.
The Hi thread is probably a time when I imagine people would want to unsubscribe. But better to have to unscubscribe to a single thread than subscribe to everything you post in.
Not sure if you have the option with this forum software, but the others I visit only send an email for the first reply until you specifically visit that thread again. So if 10 people post while you are away from your PC, you only get 1 email. Then you look at the thread and go away again. Another 5 people post while you are away and you just get the one email again.
User control panels also give the user an option for daily digests instead of instant emails.
I think if you don’t have some (non-spammy) way of alerting people you might miss out on a lot of interaction due to people not realising more posts have been made.
I’ve turned on auto subscribe, let’s see how that does.
