Hi,

I am a bit stuck on the Tutorial for Wordpress and Magento:

As per the tutorial:-

Under General Settings I am trying to change the Site Address (URL) from mysite.co.uk/myblog to mysite.co.uk/blog

however I get the following error message:

Warning: is_writable(): open_basedir restriction in effect and
Warning: Cannot modify header information – headers already sent by

I deleted some paths shown after the errors as not sure I should post them on here

I asked the hosts and they said they had changed some security setting and to try it again.

It now saves without the error – however if I go to mysite.co.uk/blog I get a 404 not found page.
mysite.co.uk/myblog still shows the blog but as soon as I click a post or page in the blog it redirects to /blog and gives the 404 error????

Is this something you can help with please?

Also if I have SSL on the site should I use https: as the blog address or just http?

Thanks

EDIT – hosts have now come back and said:

The folder in which Wordpress is installed under public_html still seems to be myblog You might want to change the folder name to blog.
If it’s a brand new installation, the best way forward is removing the existing blog, and installing it once again with the new site_url inside the correct folder.

However I followed the guide and it was saying they mustn’t have the same name hence using myblog rather than blog?? I’m totally confused now….

Howdy kazashton,

Thats right, you cannot have the blog folder called the SAME as the URL you want to use it with in Magento. That’s the mistake I made first time around.

With regards to the URL, it should be the same as your website, but with /blog on the end.

So if your domain name is “http://mysite.com” then use “http://mysite.com/blog”. However if you are using the “www” part for Magento, then add that and the same for https:// as well, if you’re using https:// for the entire site.

Ok I changed the folder name on the server from myblog to blog.

Under wordpress general settings I also changed:
the wordpress url to mysite/blog
and the site address to mysite/blog

This now appears to work fine but I’m confused if this will cause problems later on in the guides as you have them as different rather than the same?

Howdy,

Yes that will show the WordPress blog, however now it won’t work with the FishPig extension and be part of your Magento site which is what we’re aiming to achieve here.

To confirm, you want WordPress installed in ANY folder other than “blog” and then set FishPig to use “/blog” and to set WordPress site Address URL to “your-domain.com/blog”

This is so that the blog appears as part of your Magento site such as this example http://guides.understandinge.c…..etup/blog/ and not a standalone WordPress site.

This is our WP settings:

And in Magento:

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your help.

I haven’t got as far as installing fish pig yet. Should I have done that yet – i didn’t see that in the tutorials yet.

I’ve just uninstalled wordpress and I’m going to try again! I’m pretty sure I did it exactly as per your video and the screenshots above but when I did it like that the blog didn’t appear at /blog even though I changed the site url to /blog instead of /myblog

it still showed under /myblog but when you clicked on a post or page in the blog it redirected the page to /blog but then got a 404 error.

maybe i am trying this before fishpig and thats why its not working as I expect?

Hola,

Yea just follow the tutorials in the course here https://understandinge.com/course/magento-wordpress-integration-course/ and tomorrow the FishPig video tutorials will be out.

We are following a specific path with the course, hence why you might be a little confused today because you’re missing the other part which joins the WP site to Magento and that will make sense tomorrow.

Just to confirm, you want WordPress installed in a folder called “myblog”, the site url ending with “/blog” and in the tutorials tomorrow, you’ll link Magento and WP together and it’ll make more sense then :)

I think I was getting ahead of myself – I will await the FishPig tutorial and see if it works then. I’m back up to date with the tutorial now after reinstalling.

Thank you Matt

Hi Matt,

I was feeling brave so I went ahead and installed Fishpig and it’s all working great! I had to put the database details in and I think I’ve done this all correctly but I will check when you release the next tutorials…

Keep up the great work, I’m really enjoying the tutorials!
