I’m currently using custom attributes to store category/store information for eBay, although I seem to have just hit some kind of Magento limit.
As an example I’m using an drop down attribute for eBay category with the admin label being the text label to be able to select the correct option then the eBay category number being the category number value for each relevant store view. Such as the following;
Admin UK eBay US eBay FR eBay DE eBay
Chainsaws 1351564 1561568 5616515 6516515
This is working fine with the items showing in the correct categories but I’ve now got to the point where Magento will no longer allow me to add any more translated category numbers in, when I click save and open back up the label options the new entries are not saved.
I’ve tried to research this a little and found a page that suggests increasing the memory limit within the php file, but wanted a little guidance from someone who has had this problem before as to if this is the correct solution.
Does anyone have an idea about how to go about sorting this issue?
Yeah hopefully someone can give us some insight into this one as I’m sure other people will start to hit the same issue soon. I found the following page which seems to detail the issue and a resolution, but I’m not sure on the feasibility/reliability of implementing this fix when its for Magento ver 1.7 and I’m now running on ver 1.9.
I thought I’d put the question to simple servers before trying anything out, plus as I didn’t have the foggiest how to go about restarting apache. They came back to me with the following response;
“The settings on your servers for the max_execution_time, max_input_time and max_input_vars are already at the max we will allow for on a shared server.
We are unable to restart apache for you whenever you need as this is a shared server and this would effect other customers websites to do this, Your options here would be to move to a dedicated server so you would be able to set your input setting to whatever you would need and also restart the servers, apache, mysql etc etc whenever you would need to.”
I guess I will have to have a think about restructuring my attributes, I was only really struggling with one attribute anyway where I had split shoe sizes into male/female options of sizes to allow for easy conversions to EU/US sizing dependent upon the store view.
Shame as it would have been quite trick to have automatic size conversions dependent on store view, doh!
Ahhh reading their reply I guess it does make sense, and is the downside of being on a shared Server.
Yea I totally agree having the automated conversions would have been a super cool feature!
Do let us know how you get on and how the restructuring goes :)
