I know this is going to sound silly but here goes
In Magneto if you do a virgin install you get nothing in the Attribute Sets & Attributes, which i guess makes sense. But there must be a generic list that most people use or i would have thought like colour, sizes, etc etc .
Is there a list that exists you can import it seems silly for everybody to have to type there own. I know your going to say your lazy but why do it if somebody else has?
Just another thought of streamlining the process

Actually you get the attribute set called “Default” and the system attributes to start off.
And yup you’re right there will be common sets, such as Size, Colour & SizeColour. However the tricky part is working out what the common attributes should be when you look at eBay as a whole, especially for Item Specifics. One eBay category will have no required attributes (eg art) and another eBay category 5 (eg womens shoes).
I have thought of a few ways to expediate the process, such as downloading the recommended item specifics for eBay and then letting the user (ie you) select the categories that they wish to use and then populating the attributes for you using the Magento API.
But that does get a little complicated, especially when you consider the site may time out, it requires the user to create a API user, how to tackle set attributes (dropdown options), also multi-select options and adds an overhead. Yep we might turn this into a paid for service, that is an option, but right now it seems a better idea just to include 2 guides on how to locate, create, name attributes accordingly and give you the knowledge on how to do it yourself.
If that makes sense :)
Yea there are some common ones, such as brand and EAN. I’ll pull the lot of the API tomorrow and see what I get back :)
I’ve just finished the underlying code for the process for extracting eBay listings, manipulating them and creating an file that you can directly import into Magento.
Is this something you’d find useful for what you’re up to?
I’ll email the details to you in a few moments :)
It’s been a while since I’ve looked at this (the thread was back in December). If I remember correctly I paused on it because I didn’t a suitable method of getting the values into Magento.
