So, my previous problem was solved within a matter of 12 hours by another member…let’s see if it can be done again Laugh

In the front-end, when viewing a configurable product: None of the attributes update when selecting an option from the dropdown.
(Product Title, Description, price)
On import, the parent has its own details specified and every child also has unique values in these fields.
Also, when child items are set to be visible individually in the catalog or search, their unique titles, description, price etc are displayed correctly.

I realise that for the price attribute, Magmi provides a work-around here http://wiki.magmi.org/index.ph….._processor , but this won’t work for me as I have a great deal of products and use Excel calculations for pricing. It also doesn’t solve the other details failing to update.

Another thing; once an associated product/option was selected in the front end, the image gallery gets stuck on the first image. (multiple images are saved for each child)
Before selecting an option all images can be viewed, but as soon as an option was selected, you’re stuck on the first image in the viewer.
All thumbnails remain visible though.

I have re-indexed, refreshed the cache and flushed the entire magento cache several times after everything I try, so this is definitely not part of the problem.

Can anyone assist?

Hey JP,

Looks like this is a tougher one, I have forwarded on to Matt to see if he can shed some wisdom on it

JP,

I don’t believe this is something that is available “out of the box”. We used to use an extension called SCP but any support appeared to stop after 1.5 or so.

Take a look at this ClassyLlama blog post about coordinating images & pricing with configurable products: Switching Images on a Configurable Product with MagicZoomPlus and Magento

Also someone may have an answer on stackoverflow.com or elsewhere on the web.

Cheers,

Steve

An update so far:

I’ve got SCP installed, but the settings within SCP didn’t seem to make any changes apart from the price after patching the configurable.php file.

In the meantime, I have finally installed Ultimo and it seems to be the best invention since sliced bread!
After the ultimo installation both the price and title updates dynamically and the image gallery works like a charm, but still the description field remains stuck on the parent’s description.

I do need this as some of my products are projection screens that come in different sizes as well as different materials, which needs to be displayed in the description of each child.

Any advice on this final hurdle?

Morning,

Steve hit the nail on the head for this. Its not out of the box functionality for Magento.

Also steve nailed it for the option to do this, the magic zoom extension. This extension will help you switch images on attribute changes AND it has the ability to swap descriptions too.

It is worth noting that I did have some fun. The last time I used this extension with the ultimo theme when it came to the image gallery. But that was some time ago now.

I believe they have a trial version you can use to check this as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies…my apologies as I believed for some reason that it was built-in for Magento as standard.

Anyhow, thank you for introducing me to ultimo, I love how it is transforming my site with such tremendous ease!
