I have followed the guides and created a magento website, how do I create a French version of it?
If someone can point me in the right direction that would be great :-)
The French language pack is available on magento connect which is brilliant for setting up the transactional emails but not sure what else it translates. Its a free extension.
For the rest I would use Google translate to start with or if that isn’t accurate enough for you there are companies that professionally translate websites. I do not know of any but I’m sure a little bit of searching will bring plenty up.
You will need to set up an additional storeview call it French or français as a drop down box appears on the website so they can pick a language but not sure on how to name the box. Haven’t done it myself but that is the method I would start with or there might be a language pack extension which you could install which automatically brings the different languages on the frontend for the customers to pick.
Hope this helps

Thanks for your views on this.
I will take a look on magento connect for the language packs and see what I can make out.
So you defiantly think a new ‘store view’ is the way to go, not a new ‘store’?
