This question came in via email and thought it would be worth sharing it & the reply with you:
If you are a bulk seller and have say 200-500 orders to process daily, how best can this be done? We currently use Linnworks and although it has lots of bugs, it does make picking and packing rather quick. We scan an invoice and it pulls up the order and once processed it does all the sending to buyer, filing the postage to Royal Mail file (Ready to send at end of day with all the weights averaged out for each OBA line etc.)
The process screen also has product images for extra notification – Magento is great at the admin and selling the item but not so good at the shipping/processing side. Any ideas?
Yes!!!! The default Magento screen is dire for batch processing orders. So…. we found the best extension there is for Magento and we’ve been speaking with the developer. He also runs a clothing company and uses this extension for himself (a story we’ll be sharing later on).
Take a look at the article I popped up a day or so ago here http://lastdropofink.co.uk/mar…..-familiar/ this is a screen shot of a Magento orders screen, where all the orders are colour coded based upon their status, the developer is making some changes we needed, so that we can have a couple of things I take for granted from eSellerPro. I am expecting these by Monday of next week (which is now today).
The same developer has another extension that allows customised invoice, pick & packing documents too and he’s just wrapping up the development version for us, so we can get that on our test system and provide feedback, so that we can get any changes in the new version before we document it into video guides for UnderstandingE.
The whole courier thing has been a real challenge to find the right answer.
I am having to deal with my own expectations (remember I am spoilt by having had eSellerPro to use & implement) and right now I’m personally not satisfied with the options we have for the UK (the USA is easy, it’s called ShipStation.com and there are others available that do similar).
We were approached by a start up looking to take on Metapack with a ShipStation alternative for the UK, but we felt that giving them customers, the specification for the product for nothing back was not really on and declined. Metapack is an option here as they have a Magento extension, we have spoken to Shiran from Metapack, however when we did he had just moved to the new role and was still getting settled, plus they would need a lower level subscription level.
While comprehensive, it can be too expensive for some businesses and they have yet to deliver the contact details for me & dave to speak to a business owner that is actually using this extension (this is me blatantly making a point and will email Shiran from Metapack in a few minutes with a link to this post).
Saying that there are options, for RMDMO there are two extensions available, one by MadCapsule which is a company based in Bristol (my home town), another from a company called Xinto and other extensions that do the different couriers. However what is missing is the “business logic” layer.
Just because a customer chose first class on eBay for example, does not mean that you as the business owner want to ship the order via first class, that order maybe over £30 and it’s your business rule to send it via RM tracked for example, this extra layer of processing logic is proving not easy to solve right now.
Update: I gave up trying to find a solution, we’re getting this built ourselves instead.
Oh and we are of course missing the simple option, an export file that could be easily mashed up to make an import file for RMDMO as well, that’s perfectly doable and this is default functionality in Magento, the output file just needs tweaking a bit.
I’ve been working through the lessons and focusing on the product management side of the solution … but now I’m starting to think about the order processing issues.
Do you have any plans to provide any lesson guides in this area ?
… just need to understand how we get orders from Ebay / Amazon, print packing lists and confirm despatch.
We’ve just recorded two more guides to bolster the Magmi importer guides and we have two whoppers lined up, order processing and cross border trade.
One part of the order processing guides is missing for the time being, the developer is upside down on a snow board at the moment in the alps :)
Any idea of timescale for the order processing guide ?
I need to make a decision as to whether or not to go with Magento / ME2Pro and would like to get a view of this functionality before we commit.
We’re “on it”, well as best we can, started with 5 tasks for me and Dave this morning, have done 0 of them so far.
Realistically, it’ll be a minimum of a week and we’ll be dropping the guides out as soon as we have a worth batch for you. Also because order processing can touch many different aspects, we’re going to break it out into sections, so basic order processing first, then onto couriers etc…
We know a few businesses are waiting on the Order Management guides Andrew so they are definitely a priority for us to get done as soon as possible. We have lots to do also, hopefully with the launch of Premium membership next week also but we will get the first batch out ASAP.
