Riddle me this why is all the content for the product pages inside the footer container? This prevents me from having a different color for the top footer and the primary footer and leaving the product container white. When I change footer settings the home page is fine, but the product page is not because technically all that space is the footer. So my question is why and how can I fix this?

Hey Amy,

Hmmm this sounds strange! Your product page content is altering the footers?

Have you got a screenshot or a link you can share with us so we can see what your seeing. Did you go through the colours tutorial for the product page that we did and run into these problems?

Okay let me tell you a story…
I did the color tutorials and I wanted to have clean lines down the length of the website. Defining the footers in a different color for contrast and extending the background image I had selected. This is what my home page footer looks like with the settings I want. normal-footer.pngImage Enlarger

This is what my product page looks like with those same settings.

The red arrow it the product info and the green arrow is the top footer.

It took me awhile to figure out why it was doing that but much trial and error I came up with this.

This area controls the colors for the entire product page container. Why? I don’t know.

The only explanation I have is this…

Pathhints-product-page-3.pngImage Enlarger

Path hints indicate that all the blocks for the product page are actually contained in the footer…

Here’s everything with contrasting colors so you see what I mean.

Do you see what I mean?

I don’t think you guys came across this because you left everything white, but it’s a very inconvenient situation. Any help you can give would be great. Thanks.

Hey Amy,

Thanks for the brilliant posts above, that helps loads!

Yea I think you’re right, with us keeping them all white we didn’t come across this.

I am going to point this in Matt’s directions and see if he can shed any light on it.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Amy,

This looks like a issue with the ultimo theme and it handling those two pave types differently.

What I would do is post this question and a link to this thread in the comments for the theme and see what the developers over at Infortis suggest. They’re normally pretty quick at replying back.

Howdy Amy,

Can you let me know how you get on. I’m not sure why those two pages (not paves for my typo above lol) are being handled differently and I’m curious!

Okay, I got on with infortis people on the product forum. Here’s the result:

Despite a slightly condescending tone, (that I may have imagined) when they finally looked at all the info I posted here they told me to check the static blocks for invalid HTML I started by disabling all static blocks on the product page and instantly saw the color/footer change. Concept proven and it was just a matter of checking each one – in my case it was one of the tab blocks “block_product_tab1” I had accidently left a div tag open and this was the ‘unexpected result’.
Definitely a learning experience, and a cautionary tale to double check your html because apparently it can have huge ramifications.

Hi Amy,

Agreed their tone could be better, although not surprising if they’re hammer loads of questions back to back ( maybe something we can both learn from! ).

Nice find on the naughty DIV tag. They can be narly to locate, especially if you’ve done the same time twice :)

Daft question the naughty tag, was it from one of our copy & paste examples? IE is it a mistake I need to create in the example files?
