Relaunching my website from scratch

My current ecommerce Magento site is 4 years and quite small as it only has about 500 products on it. I have tried to update the site to one with a responsive theme by first cloning the site and updating the clone before switching them over, but it just doesn’t seem to be that straight forward. Old plugin and patches seem to cause conflicts with various aspects of the update.

Consequently, as I have a relatively small site I am thinking of just starting from scratch by installing the latest version of Magento CE and then my chosen responsive theme. This way I will be starting with a clean slate, able to configure it in a way I would have configured my current site 4 years ago if I knew then what I know now and it will have all the relevant and up to date plugins.

I would then simply bulk import my small quantity of products.

What I would like to know is;

a) Is it easy enough to also import the customer and order history into the new site? And,

b) Can anyone see any issues with doing it this way?

Hi Jimbob,

In my opinion, it won’t be that difficult if you don’t have to exclude a group of products and other data when importing the customer and order history.
