Hi

Any suggestions for magento designers that are reasonably priced.

Im looking to have or product page redesigned, I know roughly what i want it to look like, but dont have the coding skills required to do this.
The site is a responsive design so needs to work within this.

cheers

Hi Calum,

I normally just suggest dZine-Hub for the entire design, however ad-hoc changes, it may be better to pick up a freelancer on say oDesk or elance.

My biggest tip here is to mock the page up in paint or photoshop first (even a drawing on a piece of paper that you take a picture of using your phone is adequate), so that you know what to expect back and so does the designer too.

Im not too keen on using the crowd sourcing sites. Ive used such services in the past, usually for graphics work.

Had one person using the comp images from istock, they version they sent me over still had the istock watermark on one of the images. Needless to say i requested a refund.

Then another person who i took on to create a logo just pulled something off openclipart.org and mad a slight alteration. I found this out as i checked the image on google images, excellent tool to check for copyright images

Yea, I’ve had some fun too. “Can you send me a version without the previous clients login details in please”.

On the flip side, I’ve found some ace developers, I’ve burned a lot to get to them, but they’re in my personal stash of developers for specific tasks, when they come up, they go to them. I pay extra, but I know what I’ll get back isn’t utter junk.

And typing that has reminded me of Amit. If I ask Amit to contact you via email, will that be ok?

Do note that it maybe a public holiday for him until the 16th as he’s based in India.

I was looking at Dzine hub the other day and they have some great designs, the only thing that worried me was when i saw that one of the sites in their portfolio looks scarily like it’s been lifted from a company I used to work for, now i don’t know how they work and whether the design was asked for by the client but I wouldn’t want to get 6 months down the line and find out our website is a carbon copy of someone elses.

Hi Nick,

Yea the thing to remember, the client may have requested that. One of the easiest ways of working out what you actually want is to look at existing sites sand say I like that, that and that, but not that.

One of the reasons why I like dzine-hub so much is the designs are hand made (even if they look similar to something existing re note above) and they don’t take a base $90 theme from themeforest and then charge £1800 + VAT for it, like a specific UK design company does (won’t mention the name, but it’s glaringly obvious that’s what they do).

I agree, although if a client asked me to copy another website I wouldn’t then go and put it on my portfolio.

We are currently in the beginning stages of having dZine-Hub design our site. They are going to be using the Community edition. Is there anything specific that we should have them do so that when we go to add M2E all will go smoothly? Also, they recommended the Magento Extreme package from Simple Servers for the hosting. Will this work as we are US based? If not do you have suggestions for US server hosting? Also, if the Simple Servers will work, is the Magento Extreme package adequate to run M2E PRO and also the eBizmarts POS extension?

Thanks!

Hey Mike

If you are in the US we suggest a company called Simple Helix, they are again Magento experts and are very comparable to Simple Servers. Matt put them through a few stress tests to see how they’d perform and they did really well, so they are our recommendation.

As for the package it will depend on the type of inventory and orders you are processing, but yes they should be able to run M2E and the ebizmarts POS no problem.
