Hi Matt & Dave

Please accept my apologies now; but i have a little confusion after last Tue coffee morning. I think Matt described the 3 step approach to Magento guides including the 2nd part with Ultimo, which sounds great.

But (there is always a but) one of the main things that stands out from you advice on selling and designing the attribute set up was the 5 Bullet Points. THis is a real building block to send to ebay & Amazon and Matt & Dave are quite right it looks like every major retailer is doing it.

I note that when i look at it in my Magento website via Ultimo (which is the theme recommended) The bullets do not show up on the main description page. In fact they are on Additional Info tab, which is completely against the ethos and advise you mention in what your customer wants.

Having enquired about this
“Hi Dale, there isn’t a quick way as it needs the product page where the short description block is being held to be edited to bring those attributes in using php”

I have no issue going to oDesk or finding a developer but as mentioned above everybody will have to do this to follow the strong building block you guys set up about how best to display to your customer.

I really believe the bullet points are essential and if they are good enough for eBay & AMazon customers it only seems to make sense it should be on your magento Site.
Is it not possible to cover this one point with you famous copy paste code to save everybody having to find a developer? After all we all want to build a super cool store on a shoestring budget :)

Matt i am not asking you to change your main core process of getting rid of the nerdy bits because you guys are 100% right. But i can hope you see my point on how important the bullet points are to grabbing your seller on the instance they hit your page.

Hi Dale,

It would be frankly be quicker if you just pay the $10-15 to get this done externally as it’s not a priority for me or Dave at the moment considering the list of guides we have to complete and this clearly falls in the advanced section as mentioned previously.

An alternative is to check Google on how to bring in specific Magento attributes in phtml files.

Apologies if that’s not what you want to hear, I’m sure you can appreciate we have to focus on what we need to do to get to that 3rd stage.

@Dale

Hi Dale, a quick search on magento connect brought up this extension

http://www.magentocommerce.com…..rator.html

ive had a quick read through of the details and looks like it might fit the bill, though it only says up to version 1.7

There are other extensions showing in the search and not looked at these yet.

Hi Matt

I was not looking for you to jump this up any queue so if you thought this i am sorry. I was just mentioning it as i thought you suggested you would not be looking at this when you suggested get a developer and no nerdy coding. If you say it will be addressed in Advanced Tutorials then you have answered my question.

Cheers Dale

Hello,

This is my first forum post so please bear with me! I’ve probably done something disastrously wrong but I am not sure what!

I bought and downloaded the Ultimo theme last night after doing all the set up for new website, installing magento setting up ftp and filezilla etc. And this is the first thing I installed. I followed the instructions and disabled everything and cleared everything it mentioned and then put the theme files zip into the ftp but then it turned out filezilla doesn’t unzip so the instruction guide said unzip first on pc and then upload. So I did that – I was really proud of myself, until, I went to the website and rather than looking all nice and pretty there is an angry message there instead….
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘”Mage_Ultimo_Helper_Data”‘ (T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING) in /home/furociou/public_html/thesewemporium.com/app/Mage.php on line 547
Literally no idea what this means I checked the file down to line 547 and there is no mage_ultimo_helper_data thingy there. Worst thing is it also affected the admin which gets the same message so I can’t get in to do anything.
I’ve had a look round and the answer seems to be compilation wasn’t disabled (i definitely did) but it doesn’t really tell me how to fix it or get my little website back
Has anybody else had this or any ideas how to resolve it please? I tried deleting the files too thinking it would go back to normal and reuploading them but no joy :(

Hi @Katrina Ellerton,

I’m pretty sure that Calum is right, in the “Theme Files” folder where you found the theme.zip file there are patches for different versions of Magento.

Let’s say you’re on the latest version of Magento which is 1.8.1.0 (you can fidn this in your Magento admin at the very bottom). Open up the folder called “Theme (patch for Magento 1.8.1.0)” and drag and drop the “app” folder over to your website using FTP.

Also checking here http://themeforest.net/item/ul…..=%E2%9C%93 it could be because the compiler was turned on or not all of the files were transferred successfully.

HI

I can vouch for Callum & Matt i have updated my Ultimo 4 times and the patch is essential for it to work correctly. I find you need to read installation at least 3 times to get everything set in your mind. Then test it it on a test environment practise a few times especially if you’re going down the child theme route (which you should).

When you’re happy how to do it go to a live install and you know it will be trouble free and you know what to expect. Just my tuppence thrown in or in modern world IMHO :)

Aww thanks guys! I did add in the patch files for my version 1.8.1.0 I think it is. I have managed to fix it – not really sure I did the right thing. But I deleted “Mage_Ultimo_Helper_Data” from line 547 and its working now! Hopefully nothing will go wrong later as a result!

Howdy Katrina,

I would 100% suggest you go back and reinstall, as this will catch you out later.

I’ve done similar things in the past and then forgotten about them and then when you least expect it its caught me out.

It’ll only take a few minutes to re upload the theme files and to apply the patch :)

Hi Katrina

I agree with Matt here, please re-install. You cant really just go in and remove lines of code without knowing what it’s for. You may find out you have removed an integral part of magento later down the line and the whole store will break.

If you need help installing, give me a shout and I can help you with it.

Thanks guys – I will do that now I really don’t want anything scary happening later… Do I need to uninstall anything or just add the files in Filezilla again?!

I would start again, delete everything, reinstall magento and set that up, once setup, disable compilation, cache and merge js/css. Then upload your ultimo files for your magento version, then upload the patch files.
Log into magento backend with http://www.yourstore.co.uk or .com/admin

flush cache, then enable the theme.
