Hi Guys.

I am sure it was mentioned in one of the tutorials but I cannot find it now.

I am using the Ultimo theme and need to change the button that shows as Add to Cart that shows below the product name when on the category page to read as more info and then to have an add to basket button on the product page is this possible?

Hey David,

Try this tutorial here https://understandinge.com/tutorial/msb-pp-007/ where we deal with the translations for the product page.

Does this help?

Hi Dave.

Thanks I couldn’t remember which tutorial it was but having re watched it and gone to the translations file I still have the same problem as there doesn’t seem to be a line in the file for Add to Cart that I can edit.

On the plus side I have been able to change the Cart name to Shopping Basket.

Ah OK, in which case this could be a Coding change that is needed. I will see if Matt knows exactly where this is, or if it is in a config menu.

Hi David,

If there isn;t that option in the translate.csv file, just add a new line, for example:

"Add to Cart","Add to Basket"

Hi Matt.

I entered that line into thetranslate.csv file and it works for changing the Add to Cart button to read as Add to Basket.
But this still leaves me with the problem that on the category page the items have a button under them that now reads Add To Basket when at the point I need it to read More Info. Then I want the button on the item page to Read Add To Basket.

Hope you can help.

David.

Hi David,

I’m not sure what to suggest here as Magento uses a direct translation, so anywhere it finds add to cart, it will replace it.

The only option that immediately springs to mind is that for you to copy the phtml file for the buy button on the category page to your child theme, and manually edit the label on it.

Hi Matt.

That sounds like a good idea how would I find the file concerned?

Hi David,

Have a watch of this video, it’s for a completely unrelated file, but will show you the process.

Hi David,

Just had a quick look myself and I believe it’s in this template file:

frontend/ultimo/default/template/catalog/product/list.phtml

Yep. It’s that one.

Look for this line and change accordingly (it’s in there twice! Once for the grid mode and once for the list mode):

<?php echo $this->__(‘Add to Cart’) ?>

Remembering to make a copy to your desktop first and place this file in the child theme in this path:

frontend/ultimo/child/template/catalog/product/

Hi Matt & Dave.

I have just tried to edit the file as described above but obviously did something wrong as when I refreshed the the site page I was unable to access the item page. I deleted the new file and tried refreshing the page again but still no success.

As I had remembered your Golden Rule and created a backup before editing an files I decided this was a good time to make use of it.

But when I tried to install it all that happened was I was notified that my Back Up had failed to install.

Now when I go to my Backups on C Panel I have no Back Ups and this message Error: This was a failed install. It should be uninstalled.

Following advice from Matt by email I have now got everything back up and running after contacting Simply Servers who were able to upload one of their daily back ups.

Before I try to alter this file again can Matt please confirm that the file I need to copy to the child theme and then edit is.

app/design/frontend/ultimo/default/template/catalog/product/

Regards.

Howdy David,

For the list page it would be:

frontend/ultimo/default/template/catalog/product/list.phtml

And for the product page it would be:

frontend/ultimo/default/template/catalog/product/view.phtml

Hi Matt.

Sorry I must be being a bit dim but when I open Filezilla I can’t see a file titled frontend but if I open the app folder then the design folder there is one in there.

Is this the one I want?

Thanks for your patience.
David.

I’ve made a similar modification in the past on Category pages and just modified the same in the Ultimo theme.

Find list.phtml as Matt references above. Before editing I always make a copy of original file so list.phtml becomes list-orig.phtml.

Now open the file in your favorite editor and locate this segment of code (line 263 in an unmolested file)

<p><button type="button" title="<?php echo $this->__(‘Add to Cart’) ?>" class="button btn-cart" onclick="setLocation(‘<?php echo $this->getAddToCartUrl($_product) ?>’)"><span><span><?php echo $this->__(‘Add to Cart’) ?></span></span></button></p>

Comment out this piece of code like this:

<!–<button type="button" title="<?php echo $this->__(‘Add to Cart’) ?>" class="button btn-cart" onclick="setLocation(‘<?php echo $this->getAddToCartUrl($_product) ?>’)"><span><span><?php echo $this->__(‘Add to Cart’) ?></span></span></button>–>

You will see I prefixed this code block with

<!–

and terminated the code with

–>

Now copy and paste this block of code below the code block you just commented out:

<p><button type="button" title="<?php echo $this->__(‘More Info’) ?>" class="button btn-cart" onclick="setLocation(‘<?php echo $_product->getProductUrl() ?>’)"><span><span><?php echo $this->__(‘More Info’) ?></span></span></button></p

Now copy of the new code again and move down to line 541 +/- Comment out the block of code as before and paste in the new code.

Now in either grid or list mode it will display “More Info” and when clicked it will take your visitor to your product page.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Steve
