Hi,

I’ve been trying to add a link into a Static Block so that customers can click to send us an email.

I’ve entered the following style of html code into the block but it just treats it as text, shows everything and doesn’t create a link :-

me@anydomainname.com

Any ideas ?

Hey Andrew,

I just tried this on our site and it worked.

The code that I just tried was this:

<p>
This is an email link:
<a href="mailto:me@mydomain.com?Subject=Contact%20Form" target="_top">
Get In Touch</a>
</p>

Let me know if that does the trick

Nope, ‘fraid not.

Here is the code in the block_product_tab1 content … and, attached is partial screen shot of the result

Delivery

Orders for most products are shipped the same day if received before 1pm.

Personalised Products take longer depending upon the manufacturing process – see product page for information.

Mountain Brand T-shirts and Hoodies are usually shipped next day but may take longer.

<p>This is an email link:

<a href=”mailto:me@mydomain.com?Subject=Contact%20Form” target=”_top”>

Get In Touch</a>
</p>

Returns

We know that sometimes you order something and when it arrives, its just not what you want  and so, in compliance with Distance Selling Regulations, we accept returns of products – except Personalised products.

Products must be returned at customer’s cost to us within 14 days of delivery in as New Condition complete with original packaging.

Please ensure that you enclose any relevant documentation with the returned item so we can identify your order correctly.

As all Personalised Products are made to order, we do not accept returns of these products.

This works for me.

Inside your static block add a line like this:

For questions email:<a href="mailto:yourname@yourdomain.com">What the visitor sees</a>

So for example

<a href="mailto:info@greatdeals.com">info@greatdeals.com</a>

And it will display in the static black as For questions email: info@greatdeals.com

Clicking on the link will open an email within outlook. Go ahead try it, I know you want to Laugh

Cheers,

Steve

Nope, …

the code resolutely just gets treated as text … see the attached screenshot

Andrew,

I think I may know where you are going wrong. Are you just pasting the code into the content area of the static block, if this is the case that may be your problem?

You need to either click on the HTML button on the second line of the editor, or click on the large button Show/Hide Editor and then paste the code into the content area.

You can see our static block in action at BMW 3 Series Car Cover 2012 Onwards Then scroll down towards the bottom of the page.

Cheers,

Steve

Great ! That fixed it … looks fine now … but in the past I’ve used web sites that show an email link like that and when you click on it, it starts an email in Microsoft Outlook – this one doesn’t – is that a setting in my machine (your email link doesn’t trigger the email either) or is there something else I’m missing ?

Ahh Stephen beat me too, the code looked good everyone was posting so had to be the WYSIWYG editor having it’s wicked way somewhere.

As far as I know Andrew the mailto link should open using the default email client. Not sure why this wouldnt work im afraid.
