Hi,

I want to add a banner on every web page that will alert customers to our offer of Free Delivery on all orders.

Suggestions please as to how we can use some part of Ultimo theme to achieve that :) ???

Howdy Andrew,

This isn’t possible with Ultimo out of the box. I know I had a customer request that quite some time ago.

The Magento theme layout.xml file needs to be tweaked to include a new Magento static block, and in that block you can add the banner (or whatever you want).

I think I paid $60 to have that done and if you’d like I can send you the Skype details or email of the person that did that for me? Or I’m pretty sure Chris Astley would be able to do that as well.

Note: This isn’t something we would include in a tutorial because of it being a layout.xml file, an area that I would rather steer clear from.

If you have 2 or 3 columns set up, then you can show a free postage banner on the side column, this will show on the pages that have that side showing.

There is also an extension called z blocks from ahead works that can put blocks on your pages for things like this.

Thanks Calum, … do you happen to know if Zblocks is compatible with the Ultimo theme ?

It is compatible as I have it installed. However I did need to get Aheadworks to go in and make a code change as it wasn’t showing one of the blocks in the right position for ultimo, but they fixed it without any issues.

You could also perhaps use this extension. With some css modifications it might serve you, but as it sits at the top of the page it does push everything down a bit when active.

You could add it to static block block_header_top_right. I have done that on http://thealpacaclothingco.co.uk/

Really nice website design Julian!

If you don’t mind me asking, How did you get the ‘Special Offers’ category text to red?

Thanks Sam – I was surprised how easy it was to replicate our existing design when we implemented Ultimo.
re the Special Offers text colour – css is your friend :)
Look at the class attribute in the html and target that class in custom.css using:
li.nav-item.nav-7 > a > span {color:#f00}
Obviously that depends on Special Offers being the 7th category but you can order that in Magento back end.

If that doesn’t make sense let me know and I’ll explain a bit more.
