Howdy Jimbob,

That depends on which part of the page you wish to edit.

See the video below, you can find any phtml file you need:

Hi, I hope it is okay that I add to this topic but I think my situation is relevant. I’m new to Magento, testing it for about 3 weeks. Currently more a WordPress and Woo Commerce user, so trying to move over to Magento after seeing that there are things which I could accomplish with it, that I probably won’t be able to accomplish in my current environment.

Magento is installed, I was able to get products imported by using the Magmi tutorials on this site but there is an issue with 3 column pages that I absolutely cannot figure out and hence the post. I’m using the Ultimo theme (which I noticed has been mentioned here a few times) but I’m not sure if it is a theme issue or a Magento issue.

Basically when I have a two column left sidebar product page, the image of the product is aligned with the product name, description and price. Which makes sense. However, when I switch to a three column layout, the image appears at top but the product name, description and other information moves to the bottom of the image which does not make sense to me. I would have thought that everything would auto-resize to fit.

So I would like to know please how to go about re-aligning the content and was hoping someone could tell me how to fix the issue.

Hi Sean

This sounds like you are going to need to jump into a little bit of code here to see what the layout is doing. If you don’t know how to do this then this video here should help :

This will show you how to re-align certain elements on the website and also show you where the code is located.

Does that help at all?

Thanks for this, I already knew how to inspect the CSS but I still can’t figure out what needs to be edited. I’m having someone on Fiverr look at it, if they figure it out I can post the solution here.

It is just interesting how these “small issues” shouldn’t exist in my opinion. I came across another issue where I am trying to rearrange my Sidebar. From my research so far it seems you have to edit “.xml” files. In WordPress you would just drag and drop the blocks, click Save and you are all set.

No system is perfect of course but sometimes they can be a little more user friendly. When/if I get the issue solved I’ll follow up in the post.

I tried changing themes and the issue seems to have gone but I have to see if there are any other problems which have showed up.

With respect to the Sidebar issue, there are themes out there with their own “framework” and some allow you to drag and drop widgets into the sidebar. So I will have to research those themes and see if I can find one to do what I need. Once I can find a theme that takes care of both issues (the formatting and the sidebar layout), I should be able to stick with Magento long term hopefully.

Hi Sean

Totally agree, there are systems out there which do offer greater ‘usability’ and are easier to just work with out of the box, as we have always said Magento is a bit of a beast and because of that comes with functionality that we don’t see elsewhere. Unfortunately there are a few quirks too

Do let us know how you get on

Just wanted to say that I got this sorted out. I stayed with the Ultimo theme and continued to use the 2 column layout. However, something that I am kind of new to with Magento which is different from WordPerss is that the Ultimo theme allows you to import “Static Blocks” and these actually create a “third column” that allows me to place data in them.

True WordPress has widgets which are similar but when you choose three columns in WordPress, it includes the widgets versus Ultimo which does not seem to do that.

Ah yes, we recorded an intro guide for those on Friday for the upcoming design course, they are really cool when you get to grips with them, and yea pretty different to WordPress Widgets in how they behave.

Glad you got it sorted though Sean :)
