Hey there,

Just getting through the free course section which so far is great!

I see going into the premium content this covers setting up/customising the Ultimo theme.

I have recently purchased the Argento theme (not yet set anything up as of yet) and was just wondering if I would be best off buying the Ultimo theme to follow on with the course, or is this not really necessary?

I initially bought the Argento theme due to the advertised ‘optimised for speed and seo’.

Any advice would be appreciated here.

Cheers

Jonny

Howdy Jonny,

The choice of Ultimo came from myself using it numerous times for different client websites and feeling most comfortable with it because it has the flexibility and ease of selecting layouts and customising the colours as desired. ( Note it was always a easy sell, look you buy this theme for $99 and save the rest of your budget for customisations and extensions ).

If you prefer the Argento theme go with that one, support and updates are included with both themes ( although Ultimo doesn’t have the $25 a month overhead with it which is also found with Template Monster Magento themes ).

The one thing to note is that we had to chose one theme to work with, Ultimo was our choice and the tutorials are focused purely around this theme and the options you have with Argento while similar in functionality are likely to be quite different.

Do I personally like the Argento theme?

Yep I love the ajax loader after adding a product to the cart & the upsell options they have, the rounded buttons and the removal of the header & footer areas in the checkout which isn’t in the Ultimo theme by default. Oh and the grid icons as well, they look snazzy on the left on category pages.

Note: The ajax loader is 50/50 for me, I personally rather the customer ended up at the cart to pay and on the checkout page removal of the header and footer sections. Not wanting to give too much away, but there will be copy & paste CSS included for that section of the course because those sections do need to be stripped for better conversion and I’ll be including that.

So to answer your question:

I have recently purchased the Argento theme (not yet set anything up as of yet) and was just wondering if I would be best off buying the Ultimo theme to follow on with the course, or is this not really necessary?

We’re only covering the Ultimo theme as part of the design course.

Nice one Matt, thanks for the reply! I reckon I’m going to make it easy as possible on myself and go for Ultimo :)
