Hi all,

Okay we have finally given up on finding a UK developer who can upgrade our ancient website – in the words of one .. “no-one will touch it with a barge pole – too old, too many problems.”

We have found someone overseas (yikes) through a kind of find-a-freelancer site and he has good feedback and they don’t release the money till we say we’re happy so here’s hoping.

Anyway, when it comes to themes I am a total newbie – I’ve had to google layered navigation, responsive theme etc to check what these terms mean and I am now totally baffled.

I (stupidly) looked at it as if buying an orange – rather than a piece of fruit – and have now learned that some have contact forms/social media buttons while some don’t; some I fear don’t work with all browsers (what’s the point in that??); some have mega menu (still need to google that….)

Is there any helpful website that shows available themes with a list of what they offer – so they can be compared or is it a question of choosing a theme and then just hoping it has everything I need and buying extensions if not? Being such a novice there might be things I don’t even know I need until they’re not there.
In short, help!
I’m thinking now to just get the upgrade and then think about changing themes later – or is that stupid cost-wise? He says he can provide us with a new theme for an extra £100. I have looked at the classic theme and it looks like that would be okay.
Any advice much appreciated asap.
in case anyone is capable of just looking at what we have now and knowing whether classic would work, our site is
thanks !!

Update – I have found a free responsive theme – access shop lite for community edition. It looks quite adaptable.
can be viewed here and there is a live demo so you can try out different pages. Anyone come across this one?…

thanks again Mollie

Hey Mollie,

Can’t say I have come across that one. We have a full course dedicated to using the Ultimo theme which is the one we recommend.

Hi Dave,

many thanks for that. I’ve looked at Ultimo and it looks good – would make sense for us to go with that if it’s popular – and there’s a course for it :)
thanks again
