Hi
I’m looking for a way or extension for magento that will allow me to create the sku numbers following the highest sku so far.
For example i have 7000 products on Magento and each one of them has the sku accordingly ,product 3564 has sku equal to 3564.
Now i want to add another product or duplicate an existing one and i want something to fill the sku field with the number 7001 and so on with the next items.
Is there a built in option for that in Magento?
Is there an extension that can help me?
Do i need to do this with php code on the server?
Any tip will be appreciated
Thank you
Dima

Are you looking for your sku to match the product id that magento assigns or can it be a random number?

Random number, there is extensions that could work, example – http://www.magentocommerce.com…..r-pro.html

If you want the sku and product id to match, magento doesn’t assign a product id when you first load the page or at the time you hit save, so I am not sure you would find an extension that does that, might have to custom code.

Hi Dima,

Yes, there are available extensions to auto-generate SKUs.
You can search for an SKU generator from Magento Connect https://www.magentocommerce.com/magento-connect/
Most of the extensions are paid. There are free ones, but they have one star and bad reviews.

Cheers,

If you are duplicating an existing product you can get the new Product ID from the URL in the address bar.

Here is a product I just duplicated;

The ID of 858 is the new ID.

Magento updates the ID in the URL after you duplicate a product. However this ONLY works with duplicates – if you create a new product you will have to save it first before you get the Product ID.

Thank you for the answers.
Our SKU’s need to be not random but to follow the last sku created because we store them in our warehouse with those numbers.
After importing 7000+ products from Sixbit those numbers dont match the magento id numbers and for the new ones i create i need to guess what is the next sku should be.I couldnt find any extension that will answer my needs but thanks to Sheldor Baz1nga tip i got an idea how to solve this.
Thank you Sheldor.
I’ve got about 10000 numbers gap between my sku’s and the current magento id’s,my last sku was 17000 and his magento id is 7000.
So if i cant have sku automatic creater then i will export 10000 blank items to magento ,thus creating magento ids up to 17000 and now when i will duplicate the last item its sku and id will match and i can just copy it from now on from the url while editing duplicate product. After that i will just delete the 10000 blank items
How do you like my idea?
