First off Thanks Matt and Dave I have been working through the guides and getting used to magento. They are great, thanks for all the effort!

It seems most of our requirements are being met by the work Matt and Dave are doing, but there is one area severely lacking (not a dig at Matt and Dave, their work has been invaluable!) the whole inventory management area of the system is no where up to scratch for what we require. We are still using ESP and taking full advantage of it’s inventory management side. I am sure some people don’t need to the same requirements as us, but I am sure there must be some that do.

Matt/Dave is this something you have looking into in the background? Any pointers will be helpful.
Matt/Dave have done a lot of work and maybe this is something we can try help out with as a group with (hopefully) Similar goals!?

Our requirements:

  • Multiple stock locations with the ability to update stock levels via API
  • Suppliers – ability to create suppliers and set supplier for products
  • Auto re-order – ability to set re-order trigger levels, re-order quantities on all products
  • Purchase orders – creating purchase orders per supplier – ability to send P/O to supplier and have P/O waiting for delivery
  • Deliveries – ability to book in purchase orders when they arrive and adjust stock levels on products

The list is not exhaustive, merely an overview of the main requirements.

I have looked around for module and found a few solution, has anyone used any or got advice or maybe some other modules:

It initially looks like embedded ERP is the best fit.

I also very open to the idea of speccing out the module and having it developed between a group of us?

What do people think?

Thanks.

Hey Gingebot

Firstly thank you for the kind words, it’s great to hear you have found the tutorials useful so far.

If your currently using ESP then the likelihood is you have quite a complex medium/large size business, and it does sound that you have a few complexities which is Great :D

As you know we have been trying to cover everything from the beginning which means we are working up to the more complex business models like your own.

I was chatting to Matt down in London yesterday and we are pretty confident that we know of solutions for a lot if not all of the features that you need. We will need to work out the intricacies but they are all definitely do-able within Magento.

We will keep you updated as soon as we have some more of these answers

Thanks for the reply Dave and glad you have some Ideas on the matter.

Is this something I can help you guys investigate? – Without this part of the system it is not usable for us, I am more than happy to put some time/effort into this which could benefit us all. If not do you have any kind of time scale?

Thanks.

Did anyone ever get any farther in looking into this? The MageStore Inventory system looks good, but has anyone gotten hands on with it?

Hi,

Been a while, but I’m back on it again :)

I have had a chat with the people at magestore, unfortunately they have confirmed their extension will not work if M2E pro extension is installed. They have assured me that it is something they are looking into as they have a lot of enquiries from people who want to use m2e pro. I have also directed them to Understandinge and the forums to hopefully encourage them to develop compatibility.

Back to the drawing board, I have had a play with openerp and it is an extremely comprehensive piece of software, but i would rather keep everything in mangento.

Thanks.

Hey Gingebot,

Ah that’s a shame about Magestore but yea hopefully they can work on an integration with M2E as that would be really cool!

Thanks for the update we really appreciate it

I will investigate further.

gingebot, have you had a chance to look into embeddederp properly yet?

Also, worth exploring http://www.peoplevox.co.uk

PeopleVox is good and very comprehensive however I would class this as a Premium solution and the cost is more than what most would justify

Hi Dave / Dimitri,

I have had a quick play on the interactive demo for embeddederp and it seems to do a great job. I have since been brushing up on my magento skills (Thanks to Matt and Dave and their tutorials) as I’m not using it yet, then i will have a serious crack at embeddederp and decide if it is worth the money.

I had a quick look at PeopleVox, as Dave said it looks very comprehensive, but I didn’t see any pricing. I am assuming it is a SAAS business? If so it’s just the thing I’m trying to get away from.

Howdy All,

Magento ERP. I’ve used that and it’s pretty good as you would expect from that price of product.

A few things bugged me though. The despatch process was getting there as you can do separate packing per member of staff, but the process was let down by there being no UK carrier support, so close! And they also have multiple supplier support, but do check if you can have two different suppliers for the same product.

And a side-shoot problem was that the Magento ERP gives a pseudo stock level, which is why you can use it with M2EPro as you can change the attribute that M2EPro uses for the stock levels. However this does mean that you have to use the import tools for the extension for stock updates and Magmi won’t work for this.

Note: Could always get Sebastien from Magmi to look at making a plugin for this.

And PeopleVox, that’s way out of the reach of most, the last time I saw the pricing it was in the region of £30,000.

I am assuming you mean embedded erp? (http://www.magentocommerce.com…..d-erp.html)

And they also have multiple supplier support, but do check if you can have two different suppliers for the same product.

This could be a problem. I have noticed that boostmyshop (the company that develops embeddederp) have a ups plugin ;
http://www.boostmyshop.com/eng…..gento.html

You would hope it is compatible with embeddederp, so it may help. To be honest I haven’t got as far as looking at courier integrations etc, I noticed the whole inventory management side of magento is not satisfactory for our business, so set to work on that part of the problem first.

I would imagine it won’t be too hard to change imports to use a new stock field, hopefully :)

And PeopleVox, that’s way out of the reach of most, the last time I saw the pricing it was in the region of £30,000.

Yeah, that’s well out of reach for me!

Am going to keep plugging away at this, anyone please speak up if there are any other alternatives that you think are worth investigating or any insights you many have.

Howdy Robin,

Yea “embedded erp” is what I meant to type.

It’s this one that will get you the closest to most of the original requirements.

It’s one of those where I’m 50/50 on suggesting because it’s all down to perspective. €590.00 is a lot of money to a small or starting business, where as it’s nothing compared to +£1500 monthly fees via esp or ca for example.

If it would help, would a chat on the phone be useful? I know it would help me! As you’re looking for something that suits your business and you’ll stumble across solutions that I won’t in the same time frame.

peoplevox.co.uk it’s definitely not then. £30k? I think even the likes of Tescos will be working hard to justify costs like these.

Picked up on this thread after I raised the same issues really…having looked at Embedded ERP I see they seem to have released a fix for the stock level issue: http://www.boostmyshop.com/doc…..Channel%2F

I’m not over keen ont he price (but it’s cheaper than eSP monthly fees!) so am willing to give it a go once we’ve bottomed out the potential compatibility issues…..
at the moment my issue would be I’ve got Moogento shipEasy, pickPack & pickPack Courier Rules installed…so I’d need to disable the shipping features in Embedded ERP

Howdy Clive,

Embedded ERP adds in the suppliers side to Magento so it’ll get close to eSellerPro in that manner.

I just spoke with Ginegbot on the phone, he’s suggested looking at OpenERP as well and seeing what kind of connection there is to Magento as well.

To be precise for the key challenge here, Magento does have stock control, what it doesn’t have out of the box is the ability to split stock levels out by suppliers and do purchase orders for suppliers and multiple stock locations.

You can do simple location stock levels by using an attribute in Magento and combining it with ShipEasy, but anything deeper than that needs to be an external extension to deepen Magento.

I know Embedded ERP does do both of these things pretty well. What I’m short on at the moment is time as we’ve got to clear 3 other topics down first before starting anything else new.

Thinking aloud, maybe it’s an idea that yourself and Gingebot have a chat together? It sounds like you both have similar requirements?

@Dimitri, yea I saw a wild quote a short while ago, so that’s where that number came from.
