Hi Matt/Dave,

I need to install mage monkey and mailchimp, is this a tricky process if you haven’t done many installations in the past.

Thanks

Hi Jay,

In short it’s dead easy to do.

Without looking at the tutorials it’ll be:

1. Make sure the compiler is turned off
2. Make a backup
3. Grab the extension key
4. Add the extension in
5. Clear the caches
6. Logout & in again

And the configure as desired.

Kind of like what you would have done for M2EPro originally, but without having to go through all the setup wizard options :0

Plus you have the video tutorials to help you through.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the reply, once this is done is it ready to work or do you need to do any configuration.

Thanks

Thanks

Hey Jay,

Have you sent a few test emails to ensure they are getting sent through Magento. Then logged into the Mandrill account to see if it is recording them as sent?

If your not sure double check with Mailchimp support, the guys over there are really good!

Hi Dave,

There not showing as sent in mandrill so i’ll see if mailchimp can help, my email confirmation was already set up before i installed mailchimp so maybe this has something to do with it.

Do you also have a tutorial on how to set up and use mailchimp?

thanks

Hey Jay,

We only have the tutorial on Mandrill where we are joined by Ignacio from eBizmarts we don’t have anything on setting up or using Mailchimp at this time.

Howdy Jay,

This is one of those topics that I’d like to get wrapped into a Marketing course for your Magento website and building a mailing list is highly desirable.

We don’t have anything on this from us yet, it will be included in a later course and I just did a search on the might Google and all the vids I found were pants.

Please do let us know what they come back with, as like Matt said we do have planned to do a marketing course and they may have an angle that we haven;’t thought of yet :)

Hi,

I’ve noticed in my sales emails in system > configuration are set to enabled will this have anything to do with why mailchimp won’t work, does it need to be set to disabled?

Thanks

Hi Jay,

I wouldn’t have thought so as we need this to be enabled.

Just to clarity are we talking about the emails being sent for order notifications via mandrill or emails being sent via Mailchimp for email marketing?

It sounds like you may be a bit confused how these two integrate (it also confused me initially so you’re not alone!).

Mandrill is an off-site email processor. It will send emails for your site, correctly signed to avoid backlisting etc. Your site connects to Mandrill usually via their API, which you set the key for in the Mandrill config section of your Magento install. One of the beauties of Mandrill is that you can login to their website (mandrillapp.com) and see exactly what emails have been sent on your behalf, what the content was, who clicked them, etc. This is really useful to check that all the various transactional emails are being sent and formatted correctly.

MailChimp is a email marketing list manager. It maintains these lists on its own website. You send email marketing from that separate website. It can connect orders, via the Magento extension, from your Magento site to its remote site (mailchimp.com). Ie. you can see in each person’s email what they have bought and when, and segment by that if needed. You can also add new emails into that remote mailchimp list (via Magento confg settings in the Mailchimp extension), although they should be ‘double opt-in’ to pass mailchimp’s anti-spam rules.

The two (Mandrill and Mailchimp) are not really connected, except that it’s the same company that has made them. They are both very solid offerings.

Hopefully that clarifies things!

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the reply, so if i want to use mailchimp i don’t really need mandrill for this to work is that correct.

I have mandrill set up but it’s not showing any emails are being sent through there system, i’ve checked how i have installed the extension and it seem’s to be correct?

Thanks

I don’t think so :)
Mailchimp sends its own emails. (They may use the same tech but I don’t think you need to be signed up for Mandrill to use Mailchimp)

Yes, Mailchimp works purely on their own site. No need for any Magento extension, or a Mandrill setup, for this to work. If you want to connect your orders with Mailchimp then you’ll want to get the Mailchimp connector working (no need for Mandrill).

I have mandrill set up but it’s not showing any emails are being sent through there system, i’ve checked how i have installed the extension and it seem’s to be correct?

If emails are not showing up (and you’ve made some test orders, then it’s not working :)
If I remember rightly, Mandrill extension has some checks inside to test if you’ve got the correct keys etc.
