Sorry if this seems a daft question, but I have never installed an extension without using Magento Connect.

When I have downloaded the extension to my computer and then use my FTP client to install the files, is it just a case of copying the respective extension files to the same folders in my directory?

For example, if I am installing an extension on my development domain at http://www.test.mydomain.com and the extension file contains an ‘app’ and a ‘skin’ folder do I just copy the whole app folder over to /public_html/test/app and the whole skin folder over to /public_html/test/skin as shown below?

I am unsure if this will add the content to what already exists in these folders or if it actually overwrites the entire folder;

Howdy James,

Yep that’s it.

As you’re using a dev system, no need to suggest a backup.

Transfer the files provided, login to the admin, go to system > cache management, clear ALL the caches, logout and in again

Job done.

I was getting a bit worried that I had done something wrong as it seems to be taking a while to copy the files across. 15 mins plus

Howdy James,

Yea sometimes the amount of files can be loads and it will take a while to transfer.

I have the same here even with 100Mb connection.

That’s my thoughts too, that’s a lot of files for a single extension.

11k items for a single extension?! I’d agree with Matt and Dave there – that sounds excessive! My first thought would be that you’re copying all of a test local magento install or something.
