Data Capture for Personalisation / Customisation of Products

We sell a big range of ‘personalised’ products and so our current web site has code to enable the customer to enter their personalisation information.

For example, … want a whisky glass that says “Thanks George for being a Great Uncle” for a Father’s Day present ? … we can sell you one.

The issue is now, as we prepare to move from SellerDeck (aka Actinic) and onto Magento, we need to find an extension that will enable us to capture that personalisation information as the customer is ordering the product.

Has anyone any information / suggestions about a suitable Magento extension.

Thanks Folks !!

Hi Andrew,

You can do this in two places, either at product level with a custom attribute that the customer can fill this info in (which would be suitable for your instance) or order comments, say for a gift card.

Yes, as Matt says use an attribute. Set one up for say text and you can either use a text field or text box. This can then be used on the product page. I have this setup on a couple of personalised childrens books i have on the site.

Hoever i did see an extension that looks quite nice and fits nicely with a personalised page. Ill try and find the site again so you can look at that as an option, it was a paid for extension.

Doing it yourself using an attribute is of course free

I think we’re going to need the paid for extension because we need to able to absolutely control :-

– The number of lines of personalisation
– The length (number of characters) per line of personalisation

We have approx 5,000 products of this type and it would be a nightmare having to contact everyone who, for example, entered a 13 character personalisation into a line where a maximum of 12 characters were allowed.

So, if you can remember the extension info, that’d be great !

@andrew

This is the extension I came across, not sure if it can do what you are after, have a read through of the blurb to see if it fits your needs.
