If you need to keep an eye on your server to see if its up or down, you can use pingdom. This will email you the moment it detects that your server is down or back up
I have found it useful, at the moment our site is down, and waiting to find out whats happened.
Well im pulling my hair out here, turns out my site isnt down, but my entire public_html folder has been deleted from the server. Im the only one with access to it and I havent deleted it.
Simple servers were doing some maintenance so not sure if its connected.
The other major issue is that my backups were in the var folder which is also gone as well.
Ive never had so many issues before
I may have deleted it when i removed some ftp accounts, opencart was never this problematic :-(
I’m sorry to hear that and I’m looking at a backup of UE right now & have a daily backups going to a secure location too (encrypted with pgp if you were wondering).
On to the topic of Pingdom, use that myself too! Received the email from them a day or two ago with a lovely 100% marker on it. Although technically incorrect as I know that the servers I have are rebooted once per week :)
A good read – a back up schedule would fit great into the Supplementary Magento Guides!
