This may be beyond the capabilities of configurable products, but throwing it out there in case it isn’t and someone knows how to do it.

My business is PC based. We sell components, motherboards, processors etc we also offer custom build PC service. What I’m trying to achieve is add custom build PC’s to magento using configurable products. So would have main sku as custom1, custom2 etc that has base price for building it set.

Then it gets tricky and can’t get my head around next part. What I’m trying to achieve is the options to select to build the PC would be taken from existing products, so for example there is a choice of 5 cases, 5 motherboards, 5 processors, 5 hard drives etc that are all ready existing simple products on the store.

I have added the configurable attributes into each attribute group that all the existing products belong to that I want to include in the configurable product. I then can’t figure out how to add these products to the configurable product. I don’t want to create variation skus of the parent. I want the parent using the existing skus as these are updated by csv for price and sku every 15 mins from my supplier.

What I would ideally end up with is Custom1 – configurable product. Then attribute motherboard for example linked to sku motherboard1, motherbard2, motherboard3 and attribute processor linked to sku processor1, processor2, processor3 of the existing products. Then as the option is selected it changes the price to reflect the item added to the build.

So the configurable products would be showing live products as variation with prices and stock. If the csv then updates a price or qty this would be reflected on the configurable product. Once I get my head around this on Magento then want to be able to upload it to eBay.

Does this make sense to anyone?

Hi Jon,

It does and the answer to this is………………………………. bundles!

This is the one instance where having the demo data in a Magento install is helpful, as the PC product has this set out for you which you can copy.

I did search to see if the demo site on Magento was still up, it is but no admin access :( If you’re using simple servers, knock up another installation in a different directory and elect to install the demo data this time using installatron.

Oh and these are supported in M2E Pro, both to create variations AND also to create flat product listings that explode into the kit parts when purchased.

See here http://docs.m2epro.com/display…..le+Product. and here http://docs.m2epro.com/display…..le+Product

Note that multiple stock quantities are being worked on, see this feature request: http://support.m2epro.com/foru…..-user-defi

Does that help you?

Matt
