I’ve been re-ordering my products using the position numbers within their categories in Magento but i’ve realised that when I update my products list through Magmi it deletes all of this. Is there a way of saving the position information within my csv so I don’t have to reorder all my products again? Or any way of stopping the Magmi import from deleting the position data?
I’m guessing what is happening is similar to this http://stackoverflow.com/quest…..tore-store when you import the products it’s resetting the products position in the category.
So two options for you!
#1 remove the categories column from the import (easier!)
#2 Add in the position to each category using ::NUMBER where NUMBER is the position you want on the end of the category.
Thank you for your reply. I’ve tried option number 2 as I want to have the info saved in my csv in case I have to reimport all of my products. In the category column I added the number onto the name in the format you suggested so my fields looked like this ‘category name::number’ I reimported the csv and my ordered category has not come through : ( Any ideas what I could be missing or doing wrong?
Can you attach a shortened version of the file you’re using, only two products are needed so I can see what you’re using?
I’ve just taken a look and I renamed the following columns which are below, plus the ones on the end are in CAPs and wouldn’t be processed.
_store > store
_attribute_set > attribute_set
_type > type
However thats not worked :/
So I’m thinking that while this option was released in Magmi 7.18, it has had updates made to the categories plugin since here https://raw.githubusercontent.com/dweeves/magmi-git/master/magmi/plugins/extra/itemprocessors/categories/categoryimport.php
If you press the “RAW” button near the top, copy that file and update the file in “plugins/extra/itemprocessors/categories/categoryimport.php” and see if then works.
Besides that I’m not sure as your categories layout matches what it says it should do in Magmi.
I saved the categoryimport.php file from the link you provided and copied this over my categoryimport.php located on my machine here: ‘magmi\plugins\extra\itemprocessors\categories’ I didn’t understand what you meant by clicking the ‘RAW’ button at the top?
I tried importing my csv file again but still the ordered products are not updating. So unless i’ve missed anything there it looks like i’ll have to order the category products in Magento and then ‘remove the categories column from the import’ when I do another Magmi import as you suggested in your 1st reply.
The raw button at the top, it’s called “Raw” and will show you the raw file to copy & paste from.
I raised this with dweeves back in June. The thread can be found here:
I received the following reply the same day:
“indeed, this ordering seems to currently work only with category_ids, since with names, separators are used for specifying category attributes values. I’ll try to fix this, probably by setting a specific separator for position.”
unfortunately there’s not been any replies since then.
Do you know anymore on this issue?
Or are you able to speak to Dweeves at all?
We haven’t heard from Dweeves in about 2 years, have you tried the Magmi GitHub?
