The ADVANCED SEARCH option requires 4 characters, so I was not able to find info specifically on MAGENTO GO.

What is the real difference between Magento Community Edition and Magento Go? Is there a plain “Magento“?

I find this web site on GO: http://go.magento.com/plans/
where it shows a monthly fee of $125/mo for 10,000 SKUs ( I have 3500 now).

Sorry, but I’m confused. I thought Magento was free. I see they have:
1. Magento Enterprise Edition is the high performance, scalable eCommerce solution for fast-growing and large businesses.
2. Magento Community Edition is perfect if you’re a developer or tech-savvy merchant that wants to explore the flexibility of the Magento platform. FREE
3. Magento Go is our hosted eCommerce solution for small businesses just getting started in eCommerce. $125/mo/10000sku.

I’m semi-skilled in computers, writing code and HTML. Might I use the Magento Community Edition? It appears I’d need my own hosting account, but that’s a long way from $125/mo!

Does UnderstandingE and M2E work with Community Edition or GO, or both? Why should I pay the $125/mo. if the Community Edition is free? What am I missing?

Hey Rich

There are 3 flavours of Magento.

Magento Go
Magento Community
Magento Enterprise

In everything we show in UnderstandingE we use Magento Community, we use this for a few reasons.

1. It is free to download
2. It is open source which makes it incredibly customisable

So we strongly recommend using Magento community as UnderstandingE is to teach the knowledge part needed or just to fill in the blanks. With the hosting companies that we recommend running Magento on, you are looking much more like $19 a month rather than $125.

Does that make sense Rich. The hosts we recommend and have tried ourselves if you are based in the US are a company called Simple Helix
