I have a magento web site that is running on version
How easy is it to update to the current version and what does the process involve?
Does it may any difference and is it worth it?
Does any-one have experience of going through this process?

Thank you

Hi Maria,

The jump from 1.5 to 1.8 is quite big and I’d definitely suggest you get a specialist to look at this for you.

Is it worth the upgrade?

Good question!

After a few years working at Xerox I learnt the hard way that sometimes things are just left as they are (if it’s not broken don’t fix it).

However sometimes it is worth the effort to upgrade and considering the number of versions involved here, the amount of changes, bug fixes and other fixes between the versions is bound to be vast and would probably be worth it.

You could try taking a copy of your site and trying to upgrade it and see what happens and see what breaks in a dev environment. If it goes well it’ll be a few hours work, if it goes badly errr pass!

Does that help you at all?
