All you need to do to is set up cron job for magento cron.php file. It is located in the magento installation folder on your hosting account. The command for cron job in your server environment can be seen in Configuration Wizard (Inital Step).

It is recommended to set up cron job to be run every 5 minutes.

Update: We have a guide for you on this very topic, see here:

Howdy Ben,

That is not a daft question and it’s one of the guides we have on our to do list.

However to answer the question right now, “What is a cron job?”.

Simply it’s a scheduled task. A task that is run at set times throughout the day, this could be every 5 mins, every 7 mins, once a day or even once per year.

Magento uses a cron job (a schedule task) to run background processes, such as bring in the latest currency translations or to build a google base feed. Specifically for M2E Pro they need this scheduled task to run every few minutes for them to be notified of updates to their system to then action them on the marketplaces.

For example, if a stock level has changed on a product, the scheduled task that runs every few minutes will kick in and identify this change, thus M2EPro are made aware and can keep the marketplaces up to date. Or perhaps bring down the latest orders from eBay or Amazon.

Does that answer your question?

It sure does. Can’t wait to get this started in the new year :-)

As you know, I’m a complete noob when it comes to anything that involves computers, but I’m looking forward to this challenge in 2014.

Complete Noobs are always welcome Benny :D

Both myself and Matt have made the guides ‘we hope’ as simple as possible so that anyone at all, even with no current understanding of multi channel eCommerce can follow along, and of course the forums will be open if you ever get stuck on something. 2014 will be very interesting indeed.

Hi @Des

The original post came from an M2EPro help page, and that is how you can access the cron configuration when you have M2E Pro installed.

To set up a Cron Job using CPanel, check out this tutorial here: http://calendarscripts.info/cr…..orial.html

Does this help?

Hi @Des,

Just to add to Dave’s post, if you’re looking for the actual script to run, it changed in M2E Pro V6 and you can find it in “Sell on eBay > Help” from the top menu. This will show the path you need to add to a cron job.

Hope that helps!

Depending on what your cron does and how big your store is, you may want to move the cron processing onto another server. I did this recently for a product site and it made for a more stable main server.

I also recommend aoe scheduler. I find this really useful – it’s a free extension which gives you a visual overview of all the Magento jobs being run in the cron, and you can see which have silently (or not so silently) failed. If you have a problem with one specific one you can easily turn it off.

  • pickPack - smarter Magento packing sheets and warehouse picklists
  • shipEasy - process multiple orders with no sweat & get a visual sales overview easily

Hi Jim,

Give me a shout when you’re on Skype next, as I’d like to pick your brains on this.
