Hi Calum,

It won’t as it wasn’t installed using Installatron :(

HI Matt,

Is that to clone the database rather than doing and export then import etc?

Hi James,

Cloning in Installatron copies the lot, all the directories and the database

Hi,

Only just noticed this thread and not sure if you have a solution yet but if I need to work on design/template changes on a live site I do the following;

  1. Duplicate the theme folder with a new unique name for example the app/design/frontend/default/theme_test which would be a copy of app/design/frontend/default/theme_original
  2. User chrome as your web browser with this entension installed in your browser http://spoofer-extension.appspot.com/
  3. setup a test user agent in the extension which I always use my first name to keep it simple

This was you are the only user to be sever any files or changes you make within the copies of the theme and when ready you can simply rename the copy to the original.

Hi,

I am having a bit of difficulty with this.

I believe I have managed to create an additional database as shown below.

I have managed to export the database from my main websites database as an sql file.

I have then clicked on the test database and selected import. It says import in progress but nothing appears to import. The test database remains empty.

Any suggestions?

Fixed it. I have managed to copy the database.

I will attempt the next step and provide update. Just for your info it turns out that the reason I could not export/import is because the DB was too large to do via phpMyAdmin and my hosting provided had to do it for me via SSH

Hi,

Are these the only URL’s I need to change in the database (gigglebe_testdb) for sub-domain?

Thanks Matt.

Might sound like a daft question, but I can not work out how to access the admin side of the sub-domain?

Hi James,

if you go to http://www.test.domainname.co…….php/admin does that take you there?

Hi Matt,

That just re-directs me back to my main website. I have followed the instructions here http://kb.magenting.com/conten…..e-url.html for changing the base URLs in phpMyAdmin. The only thing I have not done is flush the cache under var/cache as suggested in the instructions as I am unsure how to do this!

Which files/folders do I need to delete in the below screenshot? Is there another way to do this?

Could this be the reason why I am still being re-directed to the main website?

James

P.S

I have also checked and the local.xml file has been edited to include the test database settings

All sorted.

Got there in the end having flushed the cache. The test subdomain site is now working.

On the sub-domain I have;

– set the site to NOINDEX and NOFOLLOW
– Unistalled M2E Pro
– Disabled Google Analystics

Happy days. Next to get the mega menu sorted.

Thanks for all the help guys

Hey James

Glad to hear you got it sorted, I have been watching this thread myself and learning from it too, so thanks to everyone who was contributing. As you can tell in the guides…I am certainly the non Nerd one, so this was interesting for me to see.

Cheers
