Duplicating Products?

Hoping you can direct me to a video tutorial or give me some pointers!!?

We typically stock product lines that look the same but come in different sizes so have for example a Grouped Product ‘associated with’ Simple Products which give the size, price differences etc.,

ADDING NEW LINES
I currently find a like for like Grouped product, duplicate it, change the image, change the text, SKU, price etc., and save.
I then locate a Simple Product, duplicate it, amend it, save it, duplicate it again for the next size/price and so on. Find the relevant code and associate it to the Grouped Product.

The slightest interruption or loss of memory and mistakes occur…………frequently!!

Is there a better way of doing this?

Hi Martin,

Can you give me an example of the products you are selling? I’m intrigued why you are using grouped products instead of configurable?

Hi Dave,

Trophies, Medals, Awards etc.,

I don’t know the difference between grouped and configurable?

The site was set up a couple of years ago by my webguy who had developed a Magento retail site of his own. He’s not developing sites on a daily basis now but still handles the hosting, updates and any security issues.
We don’t have hundreds of products requiring multiple changes, most occurring at this time of year with some additions, special offers and price changes being made as and when required so I try to do these myself.

Hoping that a video guide is available to assist.

Grouoed or Configurable.
A quick Google and i’ll have a stab at the answer!!?

On many of our product lines a single image will suffice but when it comes to ordering different sized trophies, each will have different text on the nameplate. A drop down list for size may not be sufficient.

Hey Martin,

I see, we have never done a tutorial on duplicating inventory as for the vast majority of sellers, this would not be needed as we have always advised to bulk add stock via Magmi and a CSV import.

The different sizes would be easy to do on configurable and then on eBay or website you could have a note section as they place an order to specify what is needed on the nameplate. I think on Amazon they have a similar function.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help on this one.
