I have attached an image of the front end of my magento site. You will see under ‘Price’ that i have close to 1000 items in magento, however this isnt reflected under ‘Manufacturer’ or ‘Condition’ even though each item has been given values for these attributes in magento and are showing on the backend. eg the attribute ‘Condition’ has three values which is shown in the image, therefore there should be a total of close to 1000, however the total is only 15. The same applies to ‘Manufacturer’ as i probably have a few hundred items given the attribute value samsung however only 5 samsungs are showing. Also i have approx 20 manufacturers however only 4 are showing.
Does anyone know why magento is behaving like this?
Update – I do notice that the number of items under Manufacturer and Condition both add up to 15 which is the number of products displayed on page. So the Price attribute is taking into consideration the whole database of products whereas Manufacturer and Condition is only taking into consideration what is visible on the current page. As a user this would give me the impression that there are only 5 samsung items available which is not the impression i want to give. Can this be changed so it displays correct quantites as the Price attribute is doing.
The honest answer is that I’m not sure, however I have a hunch.
This might be to do with the attribute setting for “Filterable with Results” & “Filterable with No Results”.
Can you try switching over the option you have on this for say manufacturer, then reindexing and see if that makes a difference?
I tried that but it didnt work. The price attribute is set to ‘filterable with results’ and it is displaying the correct quantities. The condition attribute is also set to ‘filterable with results’ and it is displaying incorrect quantities.
Here is a screen shot of the ‘price’ attribute settings which is showing properly on the front end:

@Calum – Yes, i have tried that. The products have been assigned an attribute value eg below i have images of the attribute ‘manufacturer’ which have been given a value ‘samsung’.
When i search for samsung on the frontend i get 21 results – see image:
When i search for samsung on the backend i get 301 results – see image:
I cant figure out why all the products arnt showing on the front end.
Daft one, have you run a reindex?
The can be and often is a disparity between the frontend (eg the search or filter results) and backend because of indexing.
Also if the indexing is showing as being completed when you run it, I would be personally tempted to run it via SSH just to make sure no errors are coming up and the interface isn’t showing them to you.
@matt – i did a ‘reindex’ and that worked, even though all the index bars where green. Thanks for that. Its possible the problem was caused by me making the following changes in magento (to make it run faster) recommended in this site:
1. Enable Flat Categories and Products
In Magento admin, (top menu) System > Configuration, (left nav) Catalog > Catalog, (main page) Frontend. Set “Use Flat Catalog Category” and “Use Flat Catalog Product” to “Yes“.
Attributes that apply to Categories and Products are stored in separate database tables depending on their dataypes. ‘Flattening’ will put all attributes in one table for Magento retrieve. This will have a positive impact on site speed especially if it has 1,000 or more products
