Version Control

#1 I would you like to see a guide on… Version Control
#2 In this guide I would like to see… something that is easy to follow, maybe just do the /app/etc/local.xml, it would be nice if the course could cover an extension installation all the way through restoration.
#3 The reason why I would like to see this guide is… Was just thinking this site seems geared towards your semi technical business owner looking to take a more hands on approach to their business. Some business owners do this to save on costs but I believe most like the feeling of better knowing the details of their business. Their livelihoods are invested and websites going up and down, sales drop, it can make you feel powerless. Knowing you have a back up at the ready when you wake up to your website being down gives you a sense of security but I believe version control is better because its more isolated, faster than restoring and extends technical understanding during the process.

Hi awtech,

I’ll ask Matt if he can do a guide for that and update you once the video is out.

And thanks for keeping it detailed on what you’d like to see and the reason behind.

i agree …. guide on versioning will be graet . I did try some Udemy courses on Git and other general versioning tool, but i have feeling that must be something more user friendly. Right now i use some excellent 3-click commercial software (i will post name only on Dave & Matt request/aprove ;)) that daily scan online site via ftp and show me changed files (based on time), on click i can view diff and then on my aprovement sync changed online files with local copy. But it does not give me option to keep diferent versions of files, so i dont have history of changes.
