I would you like to see a guide on optimising server on magento
In this guide I would like to see

SSH Commands to optimise magento
Any relevant changes to be made in magento backend.
The reason why I would like to see this guide is after looking around the internet I cannot find a complete guide to do it, and dont particular like taking snippets from multiple sites. Plus when dealing with SSH and root directories on server that last thing I want to do is mess it up.

Optimisation needed due to 120k plus products plus daily orders expected to be in the region of 300 to 500. Possibly more when we have added all the products.

Currently running an apace server but I know its not configured to optimise magento.

Hey Don

This is definitely something right up Matt’s street, however I feel this would be an advanced guide as getting this deep into servers is not something that most businesses will want to get too heavily involved with.

Also with the disparity available in servers it may be tricky, but Matt may have some tips and tricks which might be useful for larger businesses and configuring their servers

Morning Dom,

Having any sort of guide on this would be tricky as no one hosting environment is the same as another.

Something I learned a long time ago, you need to be where the business needs you to be. So if you’re looking to turn over that many orders, then tinkering with the server may not be the best use of your time.

Sonnasi would be my suggestion in this scenario, they’re way more expensive than normal hosting, however they have a custom designed server stack for Magento and you can then be released to work “on” the business.
