Will we be able to list our existing Amazon or Ebay inventory onto PLay with M2E?

We currently don’t really bother with Play.com as the listing process can be a pain (First you have to list the product and all the variations, then you have to list the inventory a while later), we were hoping we might just be able to import all of our items to magento and then export them back out to Play

Hi Nick,

M2E Pro have support for Play.com, however if I’m honest with you, I’ve not had chance to look at this side of their integration in any depth at all.

Play.com always had a disjointed inventory creation process for new products where they had to be approved by Play before they could be added to their catalogue. So when it comes to creating new products, I’m not very hopeful.

Existing products should be easy as that’s just like Amazon, you’ll need a matching barcode (an EAN) or a PlayTrade product ID and you can use that to list with.

The way this used to work is you had to fill in a Play spreadsheet with all of your product information. Play would then double check this and add it into their catalogue and provide you with a Play ID. You would then use this Play ID similar to an ASIN to lit your pricing and quantity.

Since Play’s big changes i’m not sure if this is still the case or not though

This is still the case Dave, had a conversation with them yesterday about the up and coming Car parts and accessories category and I need to compile there import sheets for everything.

Eurgh, for me that was always the downside to Play, as they have such a rigid structure of how you have to fill in their spreadsheet. It wasn’t just a case of sending them an export of your products and them mapping it. You had to do the mapping.

Then if you had a product which didn’t fit in with one of their drop-downs you had to start sending messages to get it added to their system. After being spoilt with eBay and Amazon it does seem a tad archaic in how the whole thing is managed.

I haven’t seen their car parts and accs sheet but I can’t imagine it being pretty, I hope for your sake Chris i’m wrong.

I’ve never used play before but they seem keen to help and I don’t think the fees are bad, from what I’m aware if the item is already listed on Play then you can link to it in the same way you do with an existing ASIN on Amanzon.

It seems rather antiquated for what is quite a new “marketplace”, I wonder how it compares to the other Ratuken marketplaces around?

We kinda gave up listing on Play after they changed their templates and it didn’t fit in with the Excel macro we already had paid for which automates some of our processes, we were hoping we could start again once we used Magento, my Business partner noticed that our brand has finally been added to one of the templates!

Yes that is correct, if your product already exists on Play then you can just use the existing Play ID, just Like an ASIN on Amazon.

But just as Nick has mentioned above, if your product doesn’t exist on their database then you have to wait for them to sort this out…doesn’t look like they are quite ready to trust sellers to add products directly to their catalogue just yet.

Don’t get me wrong though, the guys at Play are great in my experience, just not always the easiest marketplace to get started with.

For several months now, apparently I’ve able to create brand new inventory through play.com manually, or through a spreadsheet. I’ve never created a new product though, but Play did email me guides at the time on how to create new inventory through their merchant toolbox. Rakuten did run a webinar last year on this process as well so they might have videos on this. I don’t think it needs approval from someone at play anymore.

Well that is definitely a step in the right direction…there old way just wasn’t scalable. I remember on the run up to Christmas you could end up waiting for like 6 weeks for Play ID’s as the team got swamped with products wanting to be added.

Hi Daniel,

M2E Pro can list to Amazon & Play.

A quick note on Play is that they are currently going through some funky restructure to Rakuten.com and aren’t taking any new sellers just yet. If your an existing seller this should work fine.

We currently don’t have any video’s on Amazon yet. They are next on the list after we complete the Magento website design course which is nearly done now.

We do have members selling on Amazon though who have done so through the M2E Documentation.

The route we will be taking is to import products directly to Amazon using the Amazon import sheets and then syncing with M2E Pro there, purely because Amazon can be fussy and likes the data direct rather than through software in our experience :)

We have a number of the introduction to Amazon guides recorded and you can expect to see those in the next few days/weeks being released on the site.

For Amazon and M2E We have just heard from Alex at M2E then general release of the Amazon integration is about 4 weeks away with the Beta release in 2 so as soon as we can we will kick start those too!
