I’d like some help understanding SSL certificates to enable HTTPS:// prefix hosting on my site. If a buy a certificate can I just link to all hosted content (pictures) on my eBay listing with the HTTPS:// protocol? Or….. is there more to it? I currently just link to a HTTP:// picture URL.
In the Autumn seller update, eBay informs us that listings that use externally hosted content (in my case pictures -fortunately CSS stylesheet is already on a secure server) need to be linked to via HTTPS:// to avoid relegation in search (starting Oct 17, all done by Feb 18!):
This is due to Chrome implementing warnings if there’s non secure content on a page.
Ok, I’m over the “yet another pesky thing to do with my eBay listings just to keep selling” stage (almost!), so I am thinking about doing something about it.
I’ve reviewed the Understanding-e tutorials on SSL certificates (and had a look at my hosting provider’s blurb – simple servers) and I think I get it. Buy the right type, pay money, get validated, they set it up and hooray – green padlock on my site.
If I do that and get validated is it just a matter of changing the existing links to the pics on my eBay listing to the HTTPS:// prefix for the JPG URL, or is there more to it???
Just before I take the plunge, I thought I’d ask you lovely people because you’re sure to know!
Comments/suggestions/advice please? How do I make my eBay listing only link to HTTPS:// externally hosted content (I own the external hosting).
Well, changing from http: to https: would be a matter of your host–in this case, Simple Servers–doing it, after you have done what has been outlined here: https://www.elevated.com/guide-converting-site-http-https/ Also, once the SSL has been sorted out by Simple Servers, revise the listings and M2E Pro should update those links then. Hope that helps.
