Hi,

I notice M2E now features a ‘Strike Through’ price mark down feature to individually manage/set the strike through price for products being listed on eBay.

QUESTION

Is there any way to ‘mark down’ prices of products in bulk?

For example, if I have a listing group of 12 products and I want to bulk mark down their price of all the products in the listing group by 5%. Or, do I have to do I still have to do this via the ‘Mark Down Manager’ tool in my ebay account? If it is the later will this have any conflict or issues with my M2E settings etc?

Thanks

Hi James

I think you use the catalog price rules for this, if you havent already, do some reading on the catalog price and shopping cart price rules.

These two features are very powerful and can quite a few things in reducing prices for different conditions.

Im not sure myself if they change the special price or jsut the normal price, I would have to look into that myself, but if they do, then thats how you would do mass price changes on certain products or categories etc

Hi Calum,

Not sure that is the solution.

I am not wanting to adjust the prices on the front end of my Magento store. I want the prices on my Magento store to remain the same, but for a group of products to be marked down by X% on eBay.

Thus, if products A, B, C, D and E are all displayed at £10 on my Magento store and also listed on eBay at £10 I want to be able to mark them down by 10% on eBay so they are available on eBay for £9.00, but are still displayed at £10 on my Magento store

What about setting up a new template in M2Epro with a 10% price reduction on it, and set the products against that, though ive not looked yet to see if this can be used with the strike through to show the price has been reduced. Ill have a look later to see if thats possible myself as it would be useful

Howdy James, Calum,

I am here, just hiding in the background to see what you two work out amongst yourselves :)

Cheers Matt,

My conclusion so far is that the M2E strike through feature is OK if you want to individually mark down products to be listed on eBay at a strike through price without the price necessarily being changed on the front end of magento.

E.g, if the M2E Selling policy is set as follows;

PriceImage Enlarger

Then the Price on eBay will match the product price on my Magento site front end and if my magento product has a reduced special price then eBay will use this to display a ‘stike through mark down’ price on my eBay store.

However, I personally like to have more control over my eBay pricing. I often list a product on my Magento store which has both a retail and a special price that is different from the same product I list on my eBay store.

To do this I have created two additional attributes 1) eBay List Price and 2) eBay Special Price

ebay special priceImage Enlarger

I should then be able to specify the Ebay Special Price as the attribute I want M2E to use for the ‘strike through’ price I want displayed on my eBay product page, whilst enabling me to display a different ‘special price’ on my Magento store.

However, my issue was not with how to do this. It was with how I bulk reduce or mark down a group of products I am listing on eBay with M2E by say 5%.

I can not see a way of doing this with M2E as the ‘strike through’ feature seems to be for items on an individual basis. Thus I have resorted to using the eBay Mark Down Manager tool to do this from within my eBay account

Could you not run the catalog price rules on just the ebay listing price then to drop that down by x% and leave the standard price (magento) alone ?

Ive only briefly lookied the pricing rules so not sure myself, really need to look into it more, another thing to add to the ever expanding todo list

There are a few ways I get around this problem when I list large quantities of items which have independent prices from my Magento front end.

Option 1

I create a ‘Price, Quantity and Format’ policy and use the ‘Absolute Value decrease’ option in the price change dropdown and then enter the desired discount/reduction percentage.

OR

Option 2

I use this extension Mass Product Actions which allows me to bulk edit prices by a percentage and also calculate prices from other prices.

I have edited the extension then to allow me to also have the following options.

Update eBay Price
Modify eBay Price Using Cost
Modify eBay Price Using Price

This option allows me to alter my prices in bulk very quickly.

Indeed it is, very easy to tweak to alter additional price attributes also.

On a seperate note regarding strike through pricing which I have looked at using and get an error in M2ePro when i try to revise.

Seller is not eligible to list a discounted item.

Any ideas?

Hi Chris

That isnt a bug, its from eBay

You cant put an item on sale right away, i think it needs to have been selling for 30 days at a price point before you can put it on sale at a lower price.

I’m not trying to reduce the item, I’m trying to use display the RRP using the strike through feature.

Hi Chris,

Am I just being daft, but can you not set the strike through price to be a Magento attribute?

Matt

Hi Matt,

Yes I have done that. On the items in question I have my main price, special price and eBay price. Im trying to use the main price for the strike through.

You have to call eBay and ask them to enable strike-through pricing for you. I sent a tech support request to M2e and they sent me back this snip from the developer’s guide:

According to eBay FAQ:

STP (Strike-Through Pricing) feature is available to qualified sellers who participate in the Discount Pricing program. Once qualified, sellers can apply Discount Pricing to both MSKU and Non-MSKU items. STP is available on the US, UK, and DE sites while MAP is available only on the US site. This program requires every merchant to go through the vetting process, and We cannot enable the STP and MAP to customers without going through the process. However, for this particular issue, it would be best for you to contact our end user customer support team who have the appropriate tools and access to help you:
Please visit : http://contact.ebay.com/ws/eBa…..?ContactCS

I called eBay, they enabled strike-through pricing and now I get this error on M2e:

Discounted pricing will not be applied to this item. The item does not qualify for discounted pricing.

I don’t know if it’s a function of enabling strike-through pricing on eBay but, ever since I had it enabled, my M2e installation no longer interacts with the eBay catalog.

A question about Markdown Manager and M2e: If I use eBay Markdown Manager to run a sale on listings that were entered in M2e, is there any way to prevent M2e from changing the price on synchronization and, hence, removing the item from the sale?

The only way I can think of is to avoid synchronizing price from Magento in the M2e sync policy. Is that what I have to do or is there another solution? Anyone? Thanks. :)

Morning *waves*,

Maybe setting the Synchronization Policy not to revise the price may do it?

Not ideal, but should do it.

How do you guys get the custom eBay price attribute fields to show up in the M2E Pro listing settings? I have created an eBay special price attribute and it wont show up as something I can select in the settings.

Hi Cory,

You need to add this to your attributes sets for it to appear in the M2EPro settings.
