Hi,

I have suddenly started getting this error message: “Variation specifics cannot be changed in restricted revise” when I revise manually (or auto revise when QTY changes) on SOME listings. The change was on the QTY (setting to 0) of a variation within the listing.

I have been through the listing and its variations and I can’t see why this is happening or actually, what it means – restricted revise. What is restricted Revise and why would a listing that was ok suddenly (from 25/08/2017) start getting this error message and NOT revising?

Regards,
Susan Ellery.

Hi,

Update….

I have manually changed the QTY for the listing variation directly on eBay and that changed ok. I had an eBay technician watching and they confirmed no issues… no errors.

So this looks like something going on with M2E Pro revising to eBay.

Hey Susan,

This sounds like one to ask M2E Pro. The restricted revise traditionally meant that a listing had sales on it previously and therefore you were restricted as to what you could change on the listing.

However in this instance I don’t see why Variation ‘specifics’ is being altered when just dealing with quantity.

Haven’t come across this before so one for M2E I think.

Hi Dave,

I have an answer for this now… a combination of Magento Support (who I have to say were very good) and eBay Support (who were also very good and efficient).

Anyway, what I had done a few weeks ago whilst going through the tutorial on building a Magento Website swatch colours, was that I changed the colour in a couple of existing listings from something a bit stupid eg: 216_grey to plain old Grey because that matched the swatch colour name.

What this did was create a NEW variation called Grey and disabled the old one called 216_grey. So the listing had BOTH the variations but one had no items QTY against it (the old name) and the new name did have the QTY items against it. NOTE – and this is important – there were sales against that old name 216_grey.

So what this has done is nobbled the listing and changed it to “Restricted Mode” which no longer synchronises with eBay so ANY changes made in Magento DO NOT go to the listing and also any changes from the listing eg: a sale) DO NOT synch the QTY for that sale.

Solution:
Not very nice really. I had to delete the listing and re-create it again in Magento with the correct variation names. Then list again to eBay – no probs!. However, this “obviously” caused problems with the Amazon version (deleted those first as well) as it then thought that I was listing against child variations… Aaaarrrgghhh! Anyway, for Amazon I created the listing again MANUALLY in Amazon, which pushed these back to Magento as 3rd party listings, then I manuall mapped the 3rd party listings back to the Magento listing numbers and moved them to the correct Amazon listing.

Now its sorted at least. Only 3 more listings to re-do :)

Ah fantastic, and yea that does make sense, it’s funny how such a small change can cause such a big effect.

Anyway glad you found the solution.
