Hi Guys
Been looking through all the Magneto & M2E Pro stuff and looks good if not very in-depth and hard to set-up (but worth the effort)

I previously used Wordpress with a Cart to run a site but can see this is a lot better on the surface.

I just got a few questions (well i probably got 100’s but we can wait for them :) I currently have my own template i use on Ebay and wonder is this now dead?

My workflow whichh is quiet basic but i am just starting i use a combination of
Lightroom 5 for images preparation
Dreamweaver to prepare Listings via a hand designed template
Turbo Lister to upload to Ebay
I have my own server to host images.

How is this going to change with the use of Magneto?

In my mind i guess Lightroom stays but now i put my products on Magneto Community which will allow me to add to Ebay and Amazon once configured correctly?

So the work ahead is get Magneto configured correctly re skin it to my liking. Then get M2E Pro configured correctly .

So what do i do with my Ebay template ?
How do i get all my listing on Ebay in Magneto?
Do i get rid of Turbo Lister?
Can Magneto fully control all my stock i buy in ie Prices & VAT Stock control or do i need a separate Excel Spreadsheet for this.

I know in theory what needs to happen from a high level but i know there is a lot of work required which i do not mind.
Just trying to connect up the dots to get a full picture i would prefer to do everything in the one place if i can.

I take it with self hosting and using Magneto Community it’s all free at the moment
But if sales take off why do i need to upgrade Magneto Go or even more. This bit i do not understand as it appears if i am doing all the work now re theming and configuring what do i get if i upgrade. I have my own dedicated server so i gain nothing from that! I would have done my own theme / design so what am i missing?
Sorry if i goes on a bit

Yes it is going to change. This is at a high level as you’ll need to fill in the blanks.

So right now you’re making the listing by hand, so a slight change here is that you could make the product (not a listing) in excel, add in the title, description, category, images etc… and upload to Magento. You could of course just hit “Create New Product” and fill in the details manually on each item you add.

Note: If you’re making lost of items excel is far better, but in Magento if you selling items with variations, if the variation names exist, make the master product, then adding in the variations is pretty quick, select 2 options & hit create.

Port it to use keywords, for example enter #name# where you have the product title right now and when you list it, it comes out with the product name you entered in magento. You’ll find these two articles helpful (here for Part 1 and here for Part 2) as they are reverse engineering the process of keywords, especially if you have never come across this concept before.

You either enter the product information (which is now used to sell onto multiple platforms, not just eBay) into Magento (Manually or via Excel).

As far as getting rid of TurboLister, that’s up to you. If you find it works best and you only ever want to sell on eBay, then keep it. It’s your choice as you could just use Magento & M2E Pro to collect & Manage orders (and stock control if you need that), each part is optional (hence the term “3rd Generation”, you get to pick & choose what you want).

As far as stock control, yes it can. Existing listings can be mapped to products in Magento and new products as well. If you set the synchronization settings to do so.

No.

In many ways Magento Go would be a downgrade for you. Magento Go is not the version of Magento we’re suggesting, it doesn’t have the level of control that you’ll need later on. Magento Community Edition is the one we think you need, see here for a FAQ page on the differences & why: https://understandinge.com/faq/

But if sales take off why do i need to upgrade Magneto Go or even more.

If you start processing 2,000 orders a week like Gurpreet does (see here if you haven’t heard the podcast yet and are reading this), then upgrade your hosting, as thats the “grunt” behind the site (yea optimisation blah blah here would help, that’s the webhosting providers challange which is the beauty of shared hosting!).

==========================

Does that help you Dale?

Hi @Dale Holden,

If any parts of that reply doesn’t make sense, just say :)

I know it’s a little difficult for you right now as we’re missing the arsenal of video guides to walk you through each stage one by one.

Hi Matt
I am happy to wait but I wanted to know if there was an order I should work in. I was thinking if I could get some stuff done before the main material is released.

Like should I get my Cats / Attribute sorted or should I get on with designing a skin or better with a pre made theme cost v time doing it myself.

I guess I looking for a roadmap I can start before your release date. I hope that makes sense

Howdy @Dale Holden,

No probs. I’ll whip a very quick video together to explain it with a sample product and pop it on YouTube.

I need to finish some coding first for a related project and will record & publish it later this evening for you.

With regards to the Magento theme, we’ll be showing you in in Jan/Feb time how to implement this theme from themeforest on a budget of $90 (which is about £56). It’s a theme I have personally used several times and you’ll see the purchase count on the right, it’s been sold 5,306 times already.

As for the process flow, I’m whipping up an article on the LastDropofInk site for tomorrow to explain why we can’t share this with you until January (remember that comment about a used car sales man Kiss, I need to address that, as that’s not who I am, I’m one of the most open people around and it’s because of that I need to be careful until everything is ready )

Hi Matt

Cheers for that the theme looks great and flexible. I am truly sorry about the car sales man comment but i did say i am sure your not:)

It was never meant to insult just how it appeared to me (i guess i am impatient if i reflect inwards) but i still hold out for my final judgement when i see what is delivered :)

Hi Dale,

Just had a break for a while and need to come back to coding, not broken the back of what I’m up to at the moment and it’s going to be a late one. Have pinged Dave to not let me forget about that video tomorrow. As for sitting tight, yep that’s the case for now if you need the guides.

by the way… The feedback was fantastic and it came through that you were just concerned, apologies to bring that up.

Far better than the plank that emailed me this half hour before you “the 10 seconds I heard, someone has a really annoying west country drawl” I laughed my tits off at that one.

Just dug out the reply “That would be me with the really annoying west country drawl. Apologies I can’t change that.”

Their loss :D

HI Matt

I guess your still busy i did watch your old Ebay reverse template and can see if you have the same products it will save time. But for buyers with different stock i do not believe i would save any time i have a listing template which 60% is set none editable in DW i add my listing save the new html copy into TL and list.

Your way seems like it would take me twice as long i have to piss about in Excel adding loads and loads of rows. Then use some software to import it i have a bout 4 templates in TL all set up variations are a 2 minute job. Unless i am missing something your video is aimed at a massive business with the same stuff but i guess these companies have a bank of people and software to do it .

So once again confused at who you’re audience is for this. I know your going to correct me politely but just need to know what i am missing out on:)

Hi Dale,

Apologies, didn’t finish till 3am and watched the Grand Prix from the weekend.

I’m suggesting excel as that’s the best way to handle large amounts of products, but if it makes more sense then just use the description box instead and enter the product description in there instead directly in the admin panel AND then use a template to list it onto eBay (and if you elect to have a website, it’ll appear on there too).

I’ll get that quick intro guide put together now for you.

Hi Dale,

It’s just finished rendering and the video is below and the template used is attached to this post.

Do note that this is just a basic overview and how the attributes got there and the reason why isn’t explained, plus we’re just looking at a preview, however this is what your listing could look like if listed to eBay using that template.

Firstly can I say thank you for the excellent information and ideas that both Matt & Dave (plus many others) are providing here along with the ecommerce solution itself.
My question relates to the comments further up this thread relating to Magento Go.
I understand that the community edition is much richer than the hosted solution but if that latter implementation fully supports M2E pro along with the extensions that most people might want then why is this not an option to take?
You have said yourselves that Magento is a beast and the learning curve can be very steep indeed so many people who are growing fast but want to start with a hosted solution for speed & simplicity may indeed accept certain trade-offs in functionality at the start.
I suppose my question really comes down to:
1) Are the more limited range of extensions supported by Magento Go a complete showstopper and so fundamental that the basic concept here is fatally compromised in some way?
2) And/or is the upgrade path from Magento Go to the community/commerce edition so hard and difficult you just would not contemplate it?
I appreciate that the Magento Go option may seriously compromise the options to innovate fully as you say in the FAQ section but for many businesses that might be OK dependent on the specific limitations and if the upgrade to the community edition is not too difficult or impossible.
Magento Go could offer a quick and dirty way to get started for smaller businesses using many of these solutions without spending weeks getting to grips with community Magento so we can then migrate later when appropriate.

Hi Graham,

I understand that the community edition is much richer than the hosted solution but if that latter implementation fully supports M2E pro along with the extensions that most people might want then why is this not an option to take?

The problem is this:
http://www.magentocommerce.com…..0&p=1

There are only 17 supported extensions for Magento Go

Where as for Magento Community Edition there are this many http://www.magentocommerce.com…..0&p=1

Magento Go is seriously limited by the very small range of extensions supported by Magento Go is a complete showstopper and so fundamental that the basic concept here is fatally compromised. Using your words as the base:)

Magento Go could offer a quick and dirty way to get started for smaller businesses using many of these solutions without spending weeks getting to grips with community Magento so we can then migrate later when appropriate.

We are talking the difference of 2 or so video guides between using Magento Go and Magento Community Edition. Once you have Magento of any flavour, the challenges are very similar in learning Magento.

Does that help you?

Hi Matt

Thanks for the video and dare i say it the penny should have dropped a bit since i guess i have been doing it. Please see my template page i use http://www.anditsgone.co.uk/ i have in essence my own keywords yo give me direction i just need to swap them so M2E Pro can fill it for me.

So in theory i am back on your roundabout i think. I think your saying workflow is as follows
1. Enter details into Excel
2. Import from Excel into Magento Products.
3. Magento products servers up M2E PRO
4. M2E Pro servers your Cross Online Channells Ebay , Amazon, Play.com etc
OR
1. Enter direct into Magento Products.
2. Magento products servers up M2E PRO
3. M2E Pro servers your Cross Online Channells Ebay , Amazon, Play.com etc

Am i correct or have i got it wrong?

I have a follow-up query about the theme you mentioned as well i have looked at it and well worth the cost. But when i eventually have a swanky looking site i would need my Ebay Template (and eventually Store to look similar) Does that theme help you in any way or will you be covering this in your help videos.

I hope you agree you need to cross pollinate you branding design and feel.

Not considered that and you’re right, cross pollinate you branding design and feel would be important. Needs some more thought as we’ve not looked at the desiging part of the Magento webstore yet.

Hi Matt,
Thanks for the reply about Magento Go and I can see where you are coming from.
Still very surprising that that more extensions don’t work with that version given the installed base but perhaps there are practical issues when working with it.
Anyway we are off to start reading up on Magento proper!

Hi Graham,

Magento Go is a “hosted solution” (think of it as being like EKMPowerShop, point, press buttons) and “Magento” host it for you. As such for one of these extensions to be installed, it needs to be in their hosting to be enabled.

Where as self hosted, you can pretty much do what you like (such as adding any extension).

Hi Matt

So i started looking at how i can change my Ebay template and started watching your video again and again to get it firm in my head. I noticed 1 major problem when i go to add a product in my Magento it looks nothing like yours!!!!!!

I just want to see how it links up with 1 product from Magento to M2E Pro to Ebay but my screen is missing lots.!!!!

Also when i go to Sell on Ebay i get no drop down options !!!!!!!!
