Hi guys,
Hopefully this is the correct place for this query.

We are trying to improve SEO and I saw an ad for Semalt who offer a one month trial for less than £1 (although it is then $99 per month :(

Signed up to the trial a couple of days ago and have already had emails to look at my dashboard – XXXX new backlinks and XXX referrals etc.
But I have just spotted a little notice that says Semalt only deals in white-hat SEO and that if you think you have been penalised by Google following the Semalt work, you should let them know asap.

This is scary – yes?? We are way down the rankings for a lot of important keywords BUT we are actually at number 1 on google for a couple of top keywords (not since joining Semalt – we were already there with the top ranking for a couple of products).
Has anyone else had any dealing with Semalt ? I don’t want to risk losing what we have achieved to date because of any black hat stuff!

many thanks
Mollie

Hi Mollie,

I haven’t had any experience with Semalt, but to be honest I don’t think you have anything to worry about.

Years ago Black Hat wasn’t really something to worry about, it has only been in recent years that Google has started changing it’s algorithm to get rid of the ‘quick and easy’ wins that lost of SEO companies used to exploit.

I think if you had been flagged up by Google then you wouldn’t be at the top of any search results. Semalt saying they only deal in White Hat sounds like they are just making it clear they will only do the things that are above board to try and get your site up the search results…no dirty tricks :)

Does that make sense?

Dave

Hi Mollie,

It’s the 1st time i’ve ever heard about Semalt. It’s a new SEO Tool, isn’t it?

To be honest, i don’t use this kind of SEO Tools for any my campaign. They’re mainly Black-Hat SEO with spamming and low-quality and irrelevant backlinks. Try to use it and you will find it useful or useless.

Best regards,

mollie

Hi guys,

thank you for taking the time to respond. We are now 18 days in to the free trial and Semalt said it has created more than 900 backlinks and 95 referring domains – but is there any way I can check on that to see which sites they are?
Keywords: it says it has raised the position of more than 100 of our keywords but to be honest, the only big jumps in the rankings are for terms I didn’t really want to promote.
After the free trial, it costs $99 per month for Semalt’s auto SEO – it says in the blurb that it can take at least 4-5 months to get really good results :) but since we haven’t really seen any big jumps in traffic and no real difference in sales then I don’t think it’s something we will want to continue with – and the idea that it might be black hat stuff is worrying.
However, I have to say that I love the simple layout of the stats it provides every couple of days – really clear columns showing keywords and their movement since the last report etc. It is very simple and clear and easy to follow. (The English is a little poor in some of the auto emails they send.)
Thanks again
Mollie

Hey Mollie,

Thanks for the update, it sounds like it was worth trying but now at least you know now rather than guessing.
