Hello Guys,

I would like to hear your opinion on Magento 2, should we start using it?

How about the migration from 1.9 to 2?

In general, let’s discuss it… :)

Best wishes,

Hey Artur,

We are saying don’t use Magento 2 for multi-channel until at least 2017. It isn’t ready yet, necessary extensions don’t exist yet and there isn’t a clear migration path yet.

Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of setting up a new website with Magento. It will be non-multi channel and start with about 25 items for sale.

My question is, because it is a new website would I be better to use Magento 2 instead of 1.9? I understand possible issues people with existing sites might have migrating from 1.9 to 2 this early on. However, I am concerned about upgrading from 1.9 to 2 in a year once it becomes stable, as I have read there can be issues migrating data from 1.9 to 2. Plus i am not terribly tech savy to deal with those issues.

Thoughts would be a appreciate.

Hi Dan,

Matt & Dave have just written a blog post on this topic.

It’s just not the lack of multi channel extensions, it’s the lack of templates and other useful extensions. Also the potential bugs that might be hiding in Magento 2.

So I would stick with 1.9 until next year at the earliest.

Hope this helps and read the blog

I agree it’s not ready for the prime time, in fact at the moment it’s a complete pain. Just stick with 1.9 there’s no good reason to go to Magento 2, unless of course you enjoy days of frustration and taking it out on the cat. I know i have been trying it out for a few weeks. Matt and Dave are right this won’t be ready until at least 2017 plus. By then it will be well documented anyway on 1.9 – 2.0 migration.

Yes at the moment it’s just glitch after glitch. Just setting the cron is fun and games. I couldn’t imagine running this on a live store, unless you want to spend all your time patching and upgrading. Eventually this is going to be a great piece of software, i think people just need to hold back until it’s stable.

I have changed my mind after using it for a few weeks, and with the release of 2.1 it’s pretty stable. The upgrades are nice and easy. Once you have figured out all the foilables it’s pretty impressive, so from now on I’m using it exclusively. Actually for me going back to 1.9 after using this is painful.

Yea i’ve heard good things about 2.1 being much better. However as we recommend it for multi-channel ecommerce, right now it still isn’t ready for what we’d use it for

Hey Guys,

We recently spoke to M2E Pro developers and also did some testings with Magento 2. And we don’t have any good news to share…

The system is still too buggy to be used in production environment. I can’t say what exactly the problem is, but I spoke with M2E Pro (because we are in a Partnership) and they suggested to stay away from it for the moment, not only because M2E Pro plugin has issues with the Core, but they also mentioned that Magento team has difficulties as well…

So, we have to decided to stop testing it untill 2.3 or 2.4 release.

If you’re planing to use it for testing reasons, please do and report the bugs to Magento:
https://github.com/magento/magento2/wiki/Issue-reporting-guidelines

Thanks and good luck to you all :)

Cheers,

Correct :) I also hope that it will be solved soon, but nevertheless, I will stick to the working 1.9 version for the time being :)
