Magento, Amazon & M2E - How is VAT applied to our base product prices?

Hey all,

My team and I are trying to figure out how Magento + Amazon manages VAT. As our Magento base prices are ex.VAT and Amazon requires prices to be inc.VAT. Can anyone explain to me how this works? Does it use Magentos Tax Settings? Do we create a new price inc.VAT?

We need it for when the order is synced to Magento, this will show the breakdown of costs correctly (showing VAT, shipping etc.)

Would really appreciate an answer on this as quick as possible as we are just about to launch our M2E (…and its been a long time coming) :D.

Hi Jack,

Unfortunately this isn’t one we would be able to answer as we haven’t dealt with this ourselves yet. I would have imagined this will have come from the Magento/M2E settings, but one to best check with M2E Pro for clarification.

Hi Jack,

I have the same problem. Did you manage to fix this issue?

The same issue is reported in an M2E Post and in another understange post but no clear solution in either of those.

Cheers
Graham

Hi Graham,

What exactly are you having issues with?

If your web prices are exc vat, set up an attribute for amazon price which include vat and then in your selling policy select that as your price for amazon.

As for tax rules if you go amazon>configuration>accounts and click on your account and select orders there are various setting in there to set.

Hope this helps

Hi Paul,

The problem is that Amazon (in European Markets) prices include VAT and M2E has no obvious option to correctly handle this situation. For example: If I set tax source to be Amazon in M2E (Amazon>Configuration>Accounts), the total price on Magento invoices is correct but the Tax line shows zero (the tax is lumped into the item and shipping prices). This is no good for accounting. If I select tax source as magento, then magento adds vat a second time and the invoice shows the wrong total.

How can I get Magento/M2E to handle this so that the VAT is correctly recorded in Magento orders/invoices whenever it is applicable (ie charged by Amazon).

Thanks
Graham

Hi Graham,

One possibility is did you list your product directly on to amazon then they have been imported as 3 third party listings.

If you did and initially you set the no tax class in amazon then the products will come in with zero tax.

If not it could be a few things but do your UK order working correctly?

Hi Paul,

We have very few 3rd Party products and they are insignificant in this case.

I checked the settings for our main listing and found that the Selling Format Policy was set to add the 20% to the price but the “Add VAT Percentage” field was set to “No”. I have since amended these settings so that the VAT is in the correct field. The items have been revised on Amazon but the invoices coming back still have no VAT on them.

Any other suggestions?

Regards
Graham

For any of the amazon marketplaces is the VAT being displayed properly?

When you listed the products through magento/m2epro did you have vat set up on the product properly?

Have you set up tax rules for other countries?

Hi Paul,

VAT is not displayed properly on any of the european marketplaces.

Some of the products were listed before I altered the VAT settings. But the new settings not fixed the VAT display in Magento orders/invoices (even for products listed with the new settings).

I have no tax rules for the other countries. The products are automatically shared from the UK listing to the other EU markets.

Thanks
Graham

Hi Graham,

Without having a look in your system I can’t really say.

I’m guessing that as they are all incorrect it will be settings somewhere in magento or amazon.

Sorry I can’t help without looking which I am happy to do.

Paul

Hi Paul,
I’d be happy for you to take a quick look. Hopefully you can spot what’s wrong straight away. How do I contact you privately?
I’ve had a response from M2E about it – although so far they have just referred to the online documentation.

Graham

Hi Scott, Paul,

We had to switch off the invoicing function so never actually resolved the issue. I’d still be interested in the solution in case we need to use invoicing again in future.

Regards
Graham
