Calling all women entrepreneurs… Amazon wants you on its online marketplace!
That was the clear-cut statement the giant online retailer made in its recently concluded—and first ever— conference for women entrepreneurs.
The speeches delivered by seasoned Amazon sellers and executives, as well as the workshops conducted, in the well-attended event explained the immeasurable benefits of selling on Amazon.
According to Maria Renz, Amazon’s vice president and technical adviser to CEO Jeff Bezos, Amazon eliminates common problems that many start-ups face.
She says sellers can spend their time on finding great products and building their brands, as they can outsource marketing, warehousing, packing and shipping to Amazon.
In addition to helping business women grow their businesses globally, Amazon sees their wares as fuel for its online marketplace.
“We want to focus on this high-growth segment,” says Peter Faricy, Amazon’s vice president of worldwide marketplace.
A Niche for Women in Amazon
Majority of the event’s attendees are selling in Amazon’s 25 product categories.
Though that’s good enough, women entrepreneurs are strongly encouraged by Amazon to look at its business-to-business (B2B) platform.
Amazon Business offers products specific to different types of businesses ranging from offices, schools and hospitals to farms, factories and government agencies.
Although it’s still in its nascency, the marketplace has already reached $1 billion in sales since its launch in April of 2015, and a total of 400,000 registered business customers.
Considering that many businesses today are sourcing from women vendors, the current sellers on this marketplace are positive they could boost their sales in just a few years’ time.
